Rare footage of Charlie skating a great performance after a disasterous figures and SP, yet failing to win a medal.

One of my favorite skaters. I wish there were more like him.

I am so, so glad I actually looked here for Charlie Tickner videos! I was just talking about him on FB. He was my first skating 'crush'!

See TIckner "My Way" IC 1982. This was his 2nd solo in Ice Capades EAST 1981-1982... before Finale. His first solo was during the opening number.

Another one of those classic 70's "let's jam pack in as many composers as possible" programs!
@pacmanindy
Tickner pre-dates Brian Boitano. He was the Boitano of the 1970s. I grew up watching this guy. He was a strong jumper.

Needless to say, Charlie continued to be a "crowd pleaser" when he joined Ice Capades in 1981. I had the pleasure of watching him skate nightly before we went out for Finale and as anyone could imagine touring 9 months and 8 or so shows a week can be challenging at times. Especially for us chorus kids back in the day. Charlie however, being the true pro continued to perform with grace and power. His figure skating...Clean and precise. Loved his edges! His art... FIGURE Skating. He is a FIGURE SKATER! And a gentlemen on and off ice!

He should have done that triple lutz. He can do it and has done it before. He could have won the LP over Cousins and possibly passed Kovalev to win overall if he had done it.
