Gaby Seyfert - 1969 European Figure Skating Championships LP

In one of the greatest performances of her career, Gaby Seyfert regained the European title she had lost to Hana Maskova in Vasteras in 1968. She didn't attempt the triple loop that she had done the year before, but she did gain four 6.0's for a performance that was head and shoulders above her competition. Gaby's mother, Jutta Muller is in full flow post performance ;)

Завороженно следила с пятилетнего возраста за выступлениями любимой немочки, так мама называла Габриэль Зейферт для меня маленькой, пока я не смогла хорошо запомнить и произнести её имя, королевы на льду.

Юта Мюллер -легендарный тренер.Вырастила несколько чемпионок Мира и Олимпийских игр,среди которых великолепнейшая Катарина Витт. Ну,а Габи-это ее первый большой результат. В журнале"Пионер" в детстве прочитала рассказ Габи,о том,как ее воспитывала мама.Это была строжайшая дисциплина.За не убранную комнату из за большой занятости(тренировки,учеба),ее среди ночи могли разбудить и заставить навести порядок.Это сейчас они мило улыбаются. Но все равно,с огромнейшим уважением отношусь к фрау Мюллер.А имя Габи для нас, девчонок конца 60х вызывало только восхищение.Память о ней и ее маме храею до сих пор,как одной из самых великих фигуристок и тренера. Спасибо за видео,которое вернуло меня в детство,и напомнило,что раньше оценки выносились таким древним и ископаемым образом.Если не ошибаюсь,табло появилось в 1970 году.

А я отдавала предпочтение чешской фигуристке Хане Машковой. Не показывают ЧЕ 1968 года, жаль, а потому что в 1968 году чемпионкой стала Хана Машкова, а Зейферт была второй вот и не сняла мама Габи Юта Мюллер проигрыш своей дочки на европейском первенстве. В 1968 году в Гренобле, во Франции прошли ОИ, где Габриела Зейферт была второй. На ЧМ тоже серебро. Золото было у американки Пегги Флеминг в обеих случаях. А Хана Машкова была на этих старта бронзовой, но главное, что у неё было золото ЧЕ. Зейферт была с тремя серебряными медалями, вот и не сняла мама Юта серебро дочки на европейском турнире

It always baffled me why Seyfert did not continue until 1972. She could have easily been the Olympic champion in Sapporo.

LaFore Artis she was about 85 points behind Fleming after CF in Grenoble heading into the free skating so yes, a distant second to Fleming.

Not so sure about that. By '72, Trixie Schuba was so dominant in figures that still won the Olympic title even with two extremely gifted free skaters -- Lynn and Magnussen -- chasing her. Seyfert was a good skater but, she didn't match Trixie in technique/compulsories, nor was she in the same league artistically as Janet Lynn.

She gave up skating because she wanted to go on tour with the Ice Capades and the Soviet Union wouldn't allow her too. Also, she was beginning to rebel against her mother who was a wonderful coach but very domineering in both her personal and romantic life.

Yep, and she treated Katerina as a daughter more than her own daughter. She wouldn't let Gaby leave Eastern Europe to do Ice Capades and I think she broke up a romance between Gaby and her first love. She was cold and controlling and I suspect jealous or her daughter's beauty and talent.

Gaby was more 'robust' in her physical frame than Peggy and arguably a stronger jumper. But I do say 'arguably' as Peggy's jumps were also big and quite effortless. But Peggy's line was just more refined and her Tchaikovsky music was better. I love Gaby's makeup, dress and hair here!!! 60s chic! I often wonder if this freeskate would have placed 1st in Grenoble the year prior....

@@lyudmilaaltukhova9836 She presented herself well and had a certain charisma but, artistically I find her program to be lacking. The choreography, when it exists, is rather straightforward. Instead, she mostly moves from jump to jump with little of interest in between.

The spirals , split jumps and landing positions are so half-ass compared to those of Sasha Cohen. Hard to believe this was considered the top at one time.
