Those blue bags might have been meant for IPAD or Kindle keepers. What type of glue do you use to make the bookmarks out of cards? The painting on velvet was a technique done in colonial days. Check your library system for magazines. I find current cross stitch magazines there - free. That should appeal to your thrifting self. Cotton and Twine subscriptions part of Historical Sampler co. are well done. Yes, many rabbit holes!

In Nevada it’s known as “Savers”, in Oregon and Washington State it’s known as “Value Village”. One of my favorite places to thrift. Funny Thrift Story: in 2022 I was running errands in the vicinity of one of my favorite VV locations. A small voice was whispering to me “Go in the store…” At first I resisted; I didn’t need anything and needed to save my money. The last time I went by the store, the voice was louder, and my car, of its own accord, turned into the parking lot. Well, I was there… I went in. I found a few things, nothing earth shattering. I was headed to the checkout, and found myself drawn to the “Home Decor/Art” area. I was looking about, my attention distracted, and turned back to the shelf… and my heart nearly stopped. There, 3/4 hidden on the shelf, was a stained piece of fabric in a frame. What was stitched on the fabric was what made my heart stop: “Buchanan County, Missouri”. I was born in St Joseph, MO - the county seat of Buchanan County. How in the world a person and a vintage piece of stitching came from the same place and wound up together halfway across the country is unfathomable. I snatched it off the shelf and ran for the checkout. The next day I went onto a Facebook page of St Joseph folks and posted photos… within 30 minutes I had 3 different people telling me from 3 different sources about the 2 sisters who stitched the piece. Needless to say that piece will never leave my family…
