Thank you for speaking about finding joy within your budget! I think it is important to support the cross stitch industry, but I get the impression that many FlossTubers feel pressure to have (often large) shopping hauls to “show off” in their videos. I love having and sticking to a budget because I have complete freedom to spend guilt-free within those limits! Keep making thoughtful videos, Jean!

I am learning so much from you. Your last video about how to lay your threads flat when stitching with 2 threads (or how to untwist them) was invaluable and now learning how to stitch over one is also very eye opening. Thank you! If you are ever looking for more topics to cover, I’d love to learn how to lace a piece on mounting board from you. I don’t understand how long a piece of thread is needed or how strong/thick, what to do if you have to tie off and start another string, corners, etc. Have a nice week!
@JeanFarishNeedleworks
@JeanFarishNeedleworks 3 жыл бұрын
I can't say that I will never lace but I can say that I currently do not lace my projects. Instead, I pin to the foam core. I know this is shocking to many but I just don't see the advantage. I'll keep an open mind, though, and certainly think it's a fine way to mount needlework.

Thank you! This has been the most helpful over one explanation I have come across. Some I have worked through the hard way (tearing out tiny stitches 😭), but the instruction on how to make it lay neatly light 💡 Also, your discussion of enjoying your stitching within your budget is an important reminder - the end product will be beautiful, especially when we are taught valuable techniques. Great video! Guess where I traveled to today? Needleworker's Delight! It was my first experience in a needlework shop and all I can say is WOW! I went in, announced my newness to cross stitch and if anyone could help. I believe it was Diane. She was very accommodating. I mentioned to her that you suggested I go there and they were pleased. I mentioned I was going to do your SAL and another patron (Danielle )that was sitting there stitching said she was doing it too. Since 2020 was not a vacation friendly year, I spent my money there. LOL I'll also be prepared in the event we get shut down again due to Covid. I purchased several different cuts of fabric that I will do small charts on so I can get used to them and see what I like best. Although it is a 70ish mile drive for me, it was worth the trip. Thank you for the suggestion and I hope to start the Hearts Come Home for Christmas SAL this week.

Shelia Jones (the postings are just listed in my husband's name....just doesn't seem to be a problem so I leave it alone) So I really enjoy your flosstubes! I just watched the latest one and of course your Roxanna Corson immediately got my attention since she has been in my list of want to dos for soooo long. I bought her from you at one of the Spirit Festivals in WSalem. I was so impressed to see her all stitched up! Wow! I usually do DMC....try to keep my stitching affordable because the silks are way to much for me and I have limited WDW and GA, have recently bought several Victorian Motto s but they are "gently" overdyed. I recently bought several of the blendables from Sulky and haven't used any yet. I stitch slow and only one project at a time so I'm finishing this one the way I started it with all DMC. Well after all that rambling! I'm interested in your advice about stitching reproductions like Roxanna with the blendables and other overdyes. Do you think that is an idea that seems all right or is that something you wouldn't do on reproductions. I always use whatever fabric I have at hand so I am not a devoted follow the instructions, I guess you would say, but I don't sway away from the way it's stitched. Well sometimes if a specialty stitch and I don't agree I won't do those! Thank you and I would appreciate your thoughts on the overdyes (blendables) on these samplers. Thank you so much and please continue your shows, I always learn something.
@JeanFarishNeedleworks
@JeanFarishNeedleworks 3 жыл бұрын
I think that some of the subtle overdyes are perfect for samplers. As a stitcher, I would use them and would be sure to buy enough for the whole project as I find the dye lots vary tremendously. I haven't tried the Sulky yet ... I need to do that!

When I have stitched over one in the past I managed to adapt a method so I did not lose the thread behind on a horizontal dominant thread. I did what you showed but am so pleased to see it done and why it works. Your charts on the over one are excellent because you show the relationship between the over one and the over two sections. Your diagram of the over one stitches side by side is so helpful. I think I would like to add Roxana to my reproduction samplers. Your videos are so helpful.

As always, thanks so much Jean for your videos. Yet again I’ve learned something new in the proper way to identify the dominant threads and how to carry your thread when stitching 1 over 1. My only experience is when I personify my samplers by adding start and end dates, and now I’ve got this video to do these properly. Also, I always admire some stitchers that extract a portion of a sampler and stitch 1 over 1 to make pin cushions or needle books, etc. Now I could venture to try my hand at this to see if I could tackle a larger project such as you’ve shown. Thank you, thank you, thank you 😊

Jean, what a wonderful visual presentation on this method of over one stitching! I've seen this method described in diagrams, but thought it must take such intense concentration to execute - but just watching your superbly clear close-up demonstration, make it looks like it wouldn't take much effort to make the steps habitual. Thank you so much! I won't ever prefer over one over stitching to over two, but I think now I will dislike over one much less!

You are so welcome! Like you, I am not an over-one devotee but it's nice to know that when I fall in love with a project that includes just a little of it, that I don't have to pass it by.

I have to comment about when you were talking about the quality of your materials (in response to Grammy). I use DMC, Weeks Dye Works, GAST and Classic Colorworks. They are all very good quality flosses but I-p had problems with them tangling - at any length - and had tried numerous thread conditioners, etc. to no avail. The best tip I have received from your KZbin videos is to run my floss over a dampened sponge before threading my needle - BEST TIP EVER! My floss behaves and it’s added another level of pleasure to my stitching time. Thank you!

Jean, I enjoy your tutorials. Is it possible you demonstrate how to work a saw tooth border stitch on 36 count linen. It starts over one and ends over one. I'm having a difficult time getting this right according to the pattern I'm stitching. Thank you so much! You're brilliant and your mannerism is so soft spoken and always educational. Please keep these tutorials coming! Thank you for sharing your stitching knowledge with us!

I’ve seen a few more complicated ways of doing the 1o1, but they seemed to me to be more applicable to long rows or more solid stitches. Your way is clear and easy. I’ll try it this afternoon. I’m stitching WTN Summer Schoolhouse series which are all over 1 and after a little trouble in the beginning, learned to lighten my tension enough not to pull the thread under and just stitch in the normal way. Thanks.

What a lovely video. Thank you. I have reached the age when I can afford it, but I cannot see it. But I cannot give up my stitching. I am trying punch needle, thinking it would beless demanding than my antique reproductions, but I have discovered that the kits I have bought do not seem to have the same quality of thread as the lovely kits I usually buy from the large companies. Thank you for your explanation - I think I realize the problems now.

I can't explain my process but I find the anchoring thread and then go diagonally to make the next leg...I work one leg at a time and then come back carrying the back thread diagonally...it keeps the working thread from disappearing.

Good morning, Jean. Thank you again for a wonderful video. Any chance you will ever do a segment or two on the history of samplers; who/why they were done; how are there so many of them out there being converted; why they are important; why we should stitch them given the plethora of designs accessible to us? They puzzle me, and I trust your extensive knowledge base more than others, so I would sincerely appreciate the education.

Excellent video. Thanks for the refresher over one. My eyes aren't very good, so I'm not sure I could even stitch over one, but I want to try it. Maybe a small ornament that would be about an inch in size. Saving it as usual so I can come back. Took a silk class from Maureen Appleton a long time ago, and had some patterns of hers that I did over two instead of over one. Two mini Quaker samplers, which I still love.

There are some nice 25-count linens and even weaves ... we seem to associate over one stitching with the really fine linens but the process is the same regardless of the thread count. There's an 18-or-19 count fabric called Floba that I love!
@stitch_in_woodstock
@stitch_in_woodstock 3 жыл бұрын
@@JeanFarishNeedleworks Yes, I found some Floba in my stash, and I certainly have plenty of evenweave. I have a couple of patterns that I would like to be smaller so I'm going to try it after Christmas. Working on presents at the moment.
