Hopefully the first of many more wonderful tutorials to come! I watched this as the rain was gently falling and pattering on the roof here in northern California so really the hail seemed quite appropriate. The perfect finish to a sampler to roll up and put in a sewing box or embroidered casket in true 17th century style...

Great tutorial Susan. You might just find it easier to draw the thread if you pick it up with embroidery scissors and then cut it. You then remove it bit by bit using a needle to pick the thread out and working in each direction to remove it a little bit at a time. This way you don’t cause any puckering or distortion to the fabric. This is the way I was taught and I thought you might find it useful xx

Oh that’s a fantastic suggestion!!!!!! Thank you so much 😊
@hazelanderson75082 жыл бұрын
Just tease it out a bit at a time with the needle. This is how I do it for drawn thread work. It’s much kinder on your hands too x

Fabulous tutorial! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent with us. I have hand stitched bindings onto quilts, so some of this was intuitive. I have also had to pull threads before repairing a hole I accidentally cut in my linen! But this marries the two and I learned a lot. I will feel confident now trying to hem stitch on my own, so thank you! 🧵🪡🧵 I hope you will consider doing more tutorials. 👩🏫📒

Thank you for taking the time and teaching us this. I wanted to do this with a piece I finished but since I could not find a tutorial I finished it off with the nun stitch I think. I’ve also finished a hem stitch with just turning under a narrow hem without the holes like I wanted. Now my mind is going figuring out what piece I want to try this hemstitch on. I love flimsy (is that what they can be called in cross stitch. I have a ton of quilt flimsies!)

I just loved this Susan. Thank you so much, I’ve always wondered how to do that pretty hem stitching. My question is, can this be done on evenweave as well? I am sure linen is the best but as I stitch on a piece of lugana I wondered.

Hi, Susan! I just came across your channel and tutorial, and am enjoying it so much. However, I’m a little confused…at 28:33, are you stitching on the scrap part of the linen you removed from your project? Is that just a little demo to show us how to hemstitch before you start hemstitching on the actual project? I have done some hemstitching before, but it was very many years ago, and I’m definitely rusty! 😊 Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with us! ♥️ Meline
@susanstandleystitchintime2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the confusion. My camera wasn’t on and I completed the project 😜. I had to “create” a piece to look like where I left off so I could continue the demo. I hope that helps and if you have any more questions please let me know …
