Hi Laura - Thanks for showing us your In the Library stitch. I have this one kitted up and ready to go so I'm really pumped now to start it. I'm doing my Halloween Quaker in Cottage Garden Threads and totally agree with you that these threads are amazing to stich with. - Denise

Hi Laura, for two handed stitching I use John James twin pointed needles size 26. If you want your hand motions to be incredibly efficient these needles make a big difference because you don't have to rotate your wrist at all. I started using them last winter and now I pretty much only use them exclusively with a lap stand and I think it makes my stitching faster, but it also just makes my hands/arms less tired in general. I tried the size 28 but I had issues with them snapping. The size 26 seems pretty durable and I've only used two so far because I lost the first one (none have snapped as of yet). It's worth looking into if you are concerned about hand motion. And yes, I know I sound like a commercial but I just really like them, haha 🤣

Hello Laura! I’m behind on watching all of my KZbin friends. I have never worked on a stand personally but if I got one I think I would start a new pattern to get use to it and keep the stitches similar. I hope you’re doing well! Happy Stitching!!

Congrats on your Lowry stand. I got mine about a year ago and what a difference it makes!! I can now stitch two handed and my arms do not hurt as much and I can go much quicker!! It works great with the Qsnaps that I like to use. A few months ago I bought the adaptor for large scrolls - I am doing a full coverage 36x24 piece from HAED -game changer!! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Next on my list is the one that can attach to my side table! Love seeing your projects - I added a few more to my wish list. Happy stitching!!

Hi! Just paused to come and comment about the lowery. Due to retina problems I had to swap the other way to in hand stitching. I’d definitely start a new project and a smaller one. You’ll probably get even tension pretty quickly but it might be a different tension. My in hand stitching is looser than my in hoop/frame stitching. It’s an excellent idea to use more than one method. Excellent foresight! 😊❤

I always love seeing your work. Everything is so beautiful. And I had to switch to a stand after 40+ years of in-hand stitching. I did ruin my hands. I have two lapstands that I absolutely LOVE--an Elan and a Potoky. I take the Potoky when I travel because I can't be without a stand now. Anyway, when I made the switch from in-hand to Qsnap and my stands, I didn't start anything new. I just went on as usual, and I was able to pick up two-handed stitching quickly and easily. I love it, and I can't imagine going back. Every person is different though so just see what works best for you. Have fun!

To answer your question, yes, my tension is different when I stitch in hand versus a hoop. My stitches are more uniform and snugger in a hoop versus looser in hand. I recommend starting a new project. Enjoy your Lowry! Happy stitching!

Hi Laura. I'm loving all the things and the finishes are gorgeous. I'm a hoop stitcher. And I was working on a WIP and did a few stitches in hand and there was clearly a difference in the stitches, like you said, due to the tension that is put on the fabric in the hoop. So I picked out those stitches. My opinion, I would definitely start a new project for the hoop. Can't wait for your next video!!! ❤

Hi Laura, lovely finishes and WIPS! 😊 Congrats on your new floor stand! I actually made a video about two-hand stitching, it’s my FT #3. I made it to help people think about how to do it without a floor stand, but I have since acquired a stand and the technique still works (and allows for better posture, lol). The take-away is to use your non-dominant hand on the top where your eyes and brain can help guide your fingers. Takes some practice but don’t give up. As for tension, I use a variety of techniques, using frames or sewing method in-hand, and I think there is a difference in how your stitches lay when you use 2 strands. So my advice is use a non-full-coverage project that you have already started that only uses a single strand, a project you care more about finishing than about how your stitches are laying (though for me I stitch those in-hand because it’s faster 😅), or a smaller new project without a ton of color changes. If you have a project with lots of block stitching, I find frames great for making your block stitching look nice and even and smooth. Happy stitching! -Leah Noel

If you’re very particular lol I think YOU will be able to see a difference in stitches between in-hand and hooping. Perhaps just avoid a block of stitches being split between the two. I change often between in hand and two hand hooping and have never noticed any problems. But then again I might not be particular. 😂 I recommend when using a stand to perhaps set a timer to change position every 30 minutes. Good luck! Hope you enjoy your stand.

Love your finishes. I am getting a lowery stand for Christmas and my plan is to do a mirabilia! I have heard from other stitchers that beading is so much easier with 2 hands free. I rotate from in hand to hoops and q-snaps. Just whatever I’m feeling. I tried sewing method. I like it for out lines but I’m not practiced enough yet to do it on all projects. Don’t like my tension and have to “think” and count. 😮recipe for disaster and lots of frogging 😅
@LaladeeStitches3 ай бұрын
I have heard that too (about the beading) here is hoping. I may need to get a q-snap. I have just about every other hoop, but it seems like everyone goes the q-snap route? :)

Hi there! I am using a Hobonichi Weeks planner right now to track all of my crafts. It has been a good fit for me, and I think I will go the same route next year. I bought mine on Amazon. :) You have two options with that style, a basic weeks and a mega, the only difference between the two is extra blank pages at the back in the mega. I used the basic this year and it was enough. I still have some blank pages for lists and such. 💕

In regard to your question about starting a new project in a hoop vs placing a current wip you've been in-hand stitching on in a hoop, I think the answers varies per stitcher. Are you a tight stitcher in hand? If so your stitches in a hoop may look very similar. I personally would try a new project in a hoop that is on a similar fabric/count as something you currently are stitching in-hand on. Then compare how the stitches look. For me, I do 99% of my stitching with a floor stand in a hoop/qsnap/scroll frame etc vs in hand. I also have a Lowry that attaches to a table and it is awesome. The rare occasions I do any in-hand stitching I just try to be aware of how my stitches are forming compared to the stitches that were places while in whatever frame I was using. Hope that helps. Your stitches are lovely and I am sure you will adjust easily to two handed stitching, which is soooo nice! After reading other comments, I might be the only one that switches between dominant and non-dominant on top? It gives my hands a change from routine.
@tracydaly69803 ай бұрын
Great movies!!!!!😂. Start a new project because you are right that you will need to adjust your stitching posture and tension. After a few weeks of stitching you will be in the groove and a small project would be perfect to attune your stitching. 💛🌹💛

I switched to 2 handed stitching when I started a full coverage piece and going back to in hand for smalls was difficult for me along with very noticeable change in how my stitches looked. Now I prefer hoops or q snaps.
@nicolec25233 ай бұрын
Hi Laura - You should start a new project and you can put it in a hoop or Q-snaps in your Lowery stand. I have one, among several different stands I own, and I place it in front of my picture window in the living room on the west or facing east in front of the patio door. The sun from the south streaks across the doors - not directly in it, but across - even in winter so on a light fabric, you can also see almost through the fabric. 2-handed stitching is fast once you get the hang of it and your dominant hand should be on top with the other under. Hope this helps.

Ford Vs Ferrari was such an excellent movie! I confess that I watched it mostly to see Catriona Balfe's performance, but I actually learned a little bit about auto racing LOL. In the Library is so cute finished with those Cottage Garden Threads. I kitted up a project recently that calls for CG threads (Hedgehog &Hyacinth by The Blue Flower), but the LNS didn't carry CG threads. So I had fun trying to find other threads that would come close to the same effect 😉. I am vicariously admiring your spooky stitches, as I don't have any currently. Instead my focus in October is of a man standing on a historical battlefield (which is said to be haunted - the spooky element).
@LaladeeStitches3 ай бұрын
She was pretty brilliant, but then when isn't she. :) Were you able to find similar threads? I lucked into mine by chance when I bought the Library pattern, but they have been tough to find outside of an order to Australia. I am subbing some CGT and other overdyeds for Owl forest threads on a project right now. Some of those unique dyes and be tricky to sub! But I suppose the challenge is part of the fun. :) Your spooky stitch sounds really neat. I love a touch of history.

Hello Laura 😀 Four FFOs, that's impressive and they are all beautiful and perfect for the season, of course 🍂🎃👻🦇 Your WIPs are also very pretty, I wouldn't be able to pick just one 🎃 I also got a Lawry stand in August, as a birthday gift from my husband. I love it. It takes some getting used to, a couple of days but it's really nice. I don't have any accessories yet either but I love it. I am not stitching in hand, I used to do that when I started stitching many, many years ago but I like more stitching in a hoop or q-snap or something, even though I don't stitch with the two hand method either. I do believe that there will be a tension difference that will show if you'll mix hand stitching with frame stitching so I'd definitely start a new project if I were you 🧵 I am looking forward to hear how you find using Lawry and to your next video oh and to your "tutorial" video for the soft finish technique 😁🧵🪡

There is definitely a difference between hand stitching and hoop stitching. Hoops or scroll frames pull the threads apart and in-hand is at neutral. Really suggest starting a new project. I only stitch with scroll frames since I have been stitching for over 55 years and actually have problems with my hands. Good luck. ❤😊
