Love your channel Shanda! An idea for you to use your beautiful wooden floss drop is, just number the holes 1 - 8 or how ever many colors of floss your pattern calls for, then on your pattern you can number the color/symbols 1 - 8 or again however many colors are used for your pattern. Hope that helps and makes sense. Love your Spooktacular Stars quilt! Your Anthology quilt is a marvel. You are an amazing piecer. My world revolves around needle and thread/floss. I would hate to run low on linen and quilting batting. Have a blessed holiday.

Hi Shanda! So nice to see you again! You were asking about the thread card holders and how to label them. I used a piece of masking tape that I put on the back next to the holes, then wrote the numbers on the masking tape next to the color. All you have to do then is remove the tape when you are done with a project. You could also get a set of DMC number labels that are very small that you could stick next to the thread, but they aren’t really reusable. That’s my two cents worth. I still need to get myself to Maggie’s on Main in Emmett! I need to plan to go on the third Saturday for a stitch day. That would be fun! It’s probably going to be next year, now, but I will get there eventually. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and happy quilting and stitching til next time!!! 🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🦃🦃🦃🧵🪡💕💕💕. This was my first time watching your videos and I absolutely love your video! How I use the floss holder is I put the DMC in numerical order then on my pattern I put the corresponding number aside of the DMC number. Kind of hard to explain but suppose the DMC numbers are 321, 897, 3379 and 310. On my flood holder I would put 310, 321, 897, then 3379. Then on my pattern on the key by the respective DMC symbol I put 1, 2, 3, 4. Your quilts are gorgeous!

I don’t know how I missed this video as I always jump at the chance to visit with you! I absolutely love my Cookies’ Place by PNPS magazine. I finished it last winter, I believe. Something about it reminds me of my hometown (a small village back in the 1960s and 1970s) in Ohio. I was the first kid on the bus in the mornings and one of the last off in the afternoons and that design reminds me very strongly of the older homes I passed each day. I would try to imagine how they looked inside. I hope you get yours stitched soon! Pat Carson passed away this year and now her needles aren’t being manufactured any more. I don’t know if this is temporary or permanent. Hopefully someone else takes over and they become available again. I’m so glad you found your missing books! I’ve misplaced a chart and I have torn my stitching areas apart looking for it. Finally gave up and have to believe it will show itself sooner or later. I love your refurbished needlebook!!! I have the book just haven’t jumped into that yet. Have a couple of quilts I need to get finished for gifts before but want to start working on it soon. Your Halloween quilt is so cute. I’m thinking you can use maybe the small round stitckers that are removable and you can write on the stickers what color is what for your floss keeps. So all you have to do is remove them (sticker) once you are finished with the project . Hang in there-sorry for you loss. It’s been a rough but we will persevere. 🙏

Hope that helps .Merry Christmas

I’ve been crazy busy with quilts as well and I’m not even open for business anymore! I have a few friends that I still quilt for and they went a little nuts on making tops this year. Someday I’ll get to my own. I love that you have a wood stove in your studio. I am hoping to add one. I have a hard time deciding what to keep at our cabin. Some mice got in and chewed some yarn last winter so now I’m afraid to leave any of my projects. And it always seems like what I want is always at my other studio. So I end up dragging things back and forth. I’m hoping for an extended stay after Christmas so I guess I need to figure it out.

Great point about the mice. I have thought about that but haven’t seen evidence of any. My mother lives in the main house right now some most critters stay at bay and we have a cat. Would love to quilt together- a quilt top of our own loaded on each of our machines…. now that’s a great idea!!! Hugs!

When I have used the cute thread boards, I have used little 1/4” white round labels, and instead of writing the floss number, I draw the symbol. It fits better and the color name or number is on the pattern if needed. I have Grateful, Thankful, Blessed kitted next to me, and hope to start it tomorrow. I love how you jumped right into the house first and enjoy the fun thing. I aways feel I have to start with the borders and make sure they are all lined up right before doing the middle. Your way is so much more spontaneous. Thank you for the beautiful pictures of your mountain area. I am so happy for you with all that you have finished in a year's time. Isn't it amazing what can be done when you really work at it all. I am so old school that I hope this will give you a little laugh or smile, but when you spoke of measuring the thread count on your linen with the tool that you have, I just use a measuring tape or seam gauge. That is what we had in the early years and we didn't have all these fancy gauges. When I have a huge project, and want to travel with my threads to a meeting or even just at home, I take an index card, punch holes in it, label the holes with the type of thread and/or number and sometimes when I frame my samplers, that index card with remaining thread goes into a pocket on the back of the sampler. I do have many of the beautiful thread holders, but I display them seasonally with my displays o smalls throughout the house. Back in the day, we didn't have the computer or Internet or Yarn Tree Linen calculator. All had to be done with a piece of paper and pencil. I love having Yarn Tree linen calculator as it makes it all much easier. Anyhow, hope you don't mind going back into history. Love the video and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you Norma and I love your old school thinking. I used to use a measuring tape with two pins and then count the number of stitches between those two pins. I think this gadget is just another toy that I should not have purchased. In our over consuming world, we clutter our minds and our thoughts by having all these extra items that really serve no purpose. I love your faithful comments to my channel. Happy Thanksgiving!

First let me say, I envy your longarm, although there isn’t room in my apartment for one that size. I do have a smaller one with a 6’ frame, that I’m trying to learn to use. Before I bought it I quilted on my sewing machine, but forcing a 108” square quilt thru a small throat my shoulders and wrists did not enjoy. I probably have a dozen tops waiting to be quilted, and another dozen in different stages of piecing, and who knows how many are waiting for me to start piecing. I retired in January and proceeded to go Thur my apartment weeding out things (trash, rehome, charity, keep). Ive been waiting for various furniture pieces to finish the quilt room, my livingroom, and bedroom since June. I finally gave up on a few and cancelled the orders. I’ve decided to wait untill the new year to start again. So close to the holidays I have Christmas to do thing for. Love your set up.

Hi Shanda, just found you today!, if you put a piece of magic transparent tape next to each hole and write the color number on it with a pencil, when you are finished you can just erase them. Hope that helps

Floss card floss identification. I take the sleeve with the part number with a piece of floss thread it thru and attach to the same hole in the floss card. Loop the floss tie a knot. Thread the sleeve with the number thru and tie another knot. This way they are removable/reusable. And you don’t mark up your beautiful floss card. If you want a picture I can send you a email.

Thank you for taking time to share! Your introductory pictures are awesome. You do live in a beautiful place. I moved to Utah and I am loving the close mountain views, often with morning and evening sunshine. Your anthology quilt top is such an an accomplishment. Love looking at that first row. Thanksgiving blessings to you and your family.

I would put all the floss numbers on a piece of card stock. List them in the order you would place them in the holes. Tape it on the back.

I'm interested in how you store your homemade croutons until Christmas time? I'm going to make some....we always have leftover bread as there are only two of us. Thanks. P.S. Your projects are beautiful....especially that last quilt.....WOWZERS! Cannot wait to see it all done. :)

Hi Gretchen and welcome to my channel! The croutons I make for Christmas gifts I wait until closer to Christmas to make them. The ones I make in the fall are for my family to enjoy. When I do make them they seem to store well in a mason jar with good fitting lid - the white screw on type Ball lids seem to work very well at keeping them fresh. This is a great question and I thank you for your comment. I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and many moments of stitching.♥️

Hi Shanda, I enjoyed your channel. Really enjoyed just taking in your home and the relaxed and homely feeling of it. Yes, I love making homemade croutons also. They are so wonderful!!!! I have made them in the past. I enjoy cross stitching and quilting too. I love everything cross stitching and quilting. At this season of my life I'm very well stocked on everything I need for my two favorite hobbies. Happy Thanksgiving and be blessed. Alberta from Southern MD

Love all the stitching and omg that quilt! Wow all those blocks! It is so beautiful. Your croutons sound fantastic! Have never seen canisters in Canada. I am going to-get hungry! Lol Wish I had your woodstove right now, damp here in Atlantic Canada. I need-to get some stuffing, oh yes need the fusible for back of my projects. I also don’t have much fabric but can’t stock it financially.

A Happy Thanksgiving to you n yours. Yes the losses this year have been heartbreaking. Lost my Mom 3 weeks ago, classmates, and yesterday a former co worker. But my Faith n stitching keep me going, and the support if family n friends. I love your idea if homemade croutons, great idea! The knitting needle gauge, is the a Teresa Kogut design that sheep looks familar! On your pumpkin floss holder, for me I'd tape the dmc numbers to the back. As always adore your quilting.

Regarding your question on how to use the floss board, I do the same thing one of the other commenters said. I put them on the board in the same order as listed on the chart. I mostly use bobbins though. The only time I use a floss board is with a kit that provides the floss.

Love your Christmas stitch plans - so cute and all the designs you choose! I have similar DMC floss keeps - from Kitten Stitcher and put the threads in the exact order that they appear in the key on the chart - hope that makes sense! I have a 200 year stash for sure so just need to have enough Bohin 28 needles to get it done!! Happy stitching - love from Wales :)
@shandastitchinginidaho2 жыл бұрын
I think this idea is the most logical - just thread the DMC onto the card in the order they are listed on the chart. Makes perfect sense! Thank you, my friend from Wales!!
