Where were you 30 years ago when I still had several decades left to stitch??!! At 72 I have to stitch faster. I’m Portuguese and finally came across a few Portuguese motifs that I need to stitch up into a table scarf of some sort, for my daughter before I forget how to count! I am praying that won’t be anytime soon. Love all your creativity in seeing a old design on something and bringing it to life on an embroidery project we all can enjoy!. Thank you so very much! Dar

Hello Krista! Thank you for your flosstube! I am Paola from Italy. I enjoyed very much the long version! I loved folk emboidery all my life, but I do stitch mostly sampler or prim design. This is simply because I don't want to stitch the same patttern and folk art is often the same motif stitched many times. That is what gives the harmony to it, in truth. I know Greece well and I have been in Naxos many times. I feel happy to give you some tips. Maybe you know better than me, but I am happy to help! In the island there is a wonderful tradition of embroidered house items (curtains, coverlets, cushion), but not all the shops sells really handmade objects. Their signature stitches are small squares stitched in red and blue It's not cross stitch, but it's a very simple flat stitche. I don't know the name of the stitch, but it's a very basic one. Once there was a wondeful shop called "Naxos Art Techni" which was amazing, but the closed the brick and mortar shop and they transitioned in an onlne shop. I think they are still based in Naxos, and they have a precious collection of antique pieces that are available. I also reccomend you to visit Benaki Museum. Perhaps you have already been there! They have the most amazing historic costumes, with awesome embroidered fabrics. It's a genuine joy to see all the regional costumes. There is also a smaller museum in Monastiraki area that has got textile arts exhibited. You will see folk pattern in everyplace, as in the Acropolis Museum on the dresses of the sculptures of young girl (korai). In Athens there are also some shops that sells embroidered objects, but they are pretty expensive and not all the obects are really greek... In Naxos you can visit the Folk Museum in the old city (Kastro) founded by Mr Koutelieris, which has a small section dedicated to weaving with antique instruments used to produce fabric, threads and wool. Besides the study of folk embroidery, I reccomend you strongly, if you have time, to go and visit Koufonissi. You won't regret it! I have been visiting since the 80s and it's my favourite place (of the place I visited in Greece). In September is absolutely perfect, because the meltemi, the strong wind that flows in summer, will be less intense and the water will be warmer. There are daily tours you can take from Naxos (for example on the Iason boat which is a beautiful wood vessel departing form Aghia Ana). If you need other infos feel free to ask! I think your work is very important and I really appreciate your mission to share the beauty of folk embroidery, which is (for me) somewhat underestimated. I can't wait to buy your book for my collection! Happy Stitching!

Thank you for all of your kind suggestions! I will be visiting the Benaki (I visit every time I'm in Greece--their collection is so inspiring!) and a friend is taking me to Nafplio, which I haven't seen yet. So, it will be a very full and interesting trip!

Congratulations on 10k followers and your new book. I finished stitching my Pashka basket cover and love it. I like the 30ct ground cloth, it was very easy to stitch on. I appreciate the tip on the magnetic hanger-I need those.

Aren't those magnetic hangers fabulous? And, glad to hear you liked the 30ct Mikini--it is a terrific fabric to stitch on.

Nice video - love the larger project idea - there is something to be said about quietly working a pattern that becomes very familiar when worked on for a while. Have a good trip to Greece - that sort of research is something I love to do. Nupur

Wow! Your enthusiasm popped right out in this FlossTube. Everything looked so inviting in your “new” room. Sometimes your “aside” comments were a tad hard to hear. Every project just was enabling. Lovely pillows, runners - all the good things as you would say. Good on the trip plans. Feed your soul. Thanks for sharing time with us.
