I bought my Pixel 8 yesterday. I upgraded from a Pixel 7 Pro. No one in my area had the 8 Pro in stock. This year, I just didn't feel like the extra $300 was worth it. Besides having a bigger phone, I just didn't feel like paying more for stuff I'm never going to use. Floss, it goes without saying that you're my favorite tech reviewer. Adaptive battery is still a setting you can choose. Its under battery saver in settings and then on the bottom there's a drop down for adaptive battery. there you can toggle it on or off.

7 years of updates is incredible really and for me it would be a big selling point. I have gone from getting a new phone every year to having to stick with my Galaxy s21+ due to my current financial situation. I ended up getting mine today. But as soon as I opened it I knew something was off. The display was a messed up with a pink hue tint. I tried all settings and troubleshooting it. Ended up just rellacing it. The replacement is amazing. If you feel off about your phone, get it exchanged quick. Enjoye team pixel!

For me, the curved display on my Pixel 6 Pro is one of my least favorite aspects. It makes it hard to get good screen protectors. That, the AI, and the possibility of 7 years of updates are some of the main reasons I'm upgrading to the Pixel 8 Pro.

Those press packages are always so incredible, these companies should really consider making some sort of bespoke services and throw in some subscription services cards and extra goods, (obviously at a higher price) and make that kind packaging available in wider circles. They would make for cool gifts for special occasions imo.

@@James__Smith if you're waiting for ip68 then the fold 5 is already there. the fold ipx8. the 6 or and X is the dust rating. the 8 is the water resistance rating. So yeh you can drop it in water and it'll be fine. It's not dust resistance cause samsung just does brushes in it's hinge so not really dust resistant. But yeh NO water resistance rating on the market is salt water resistance. Gotta understand, the IP ratings are rated only for clear and clean water, so like drop it in a pond or lake, you're fine. in the ocean? yeh...you got a 50/50 chance.

ATT are asses and blacklist any device that's still on an installment plan if it pops up on someone else's ATT account. Learned this first hand 2 months ago. So ditched ATT and now with T-mobile since t-mobile basically paid off my ATT device for me to switch.

The matte finish that they did on the back is the same as the pixel 3. If you scratch it with something sharp or a key it etches but if you rub it, it disappears. Glad they brought it back

I also like the little things Google pixel does. I just flew and 24 hours before my flight Google reminded me of it. Not only did it remind me of it, it told me when to leave to arrive at the flight and what gate my flight was on. When I landed it told me what number carousel my bags were coming out. It's the smartness of this phone. The little things that it does. The voice to text is almost perfect. I use it every single day. The pixel makes my life easier. due to the small enhancements that you don't realize you need until you live without it.

You know Floss, if you like the Pixel Watch but just don't like the size, there's the Ticwatch Pro 5 that basically feels like a Pixel watch, but bigger, with a much much longer battery life. Also a secondary basic display that's always on.

Android 14 has an easter egg that you can interact with, long press the Android 14 logo/icon for a few seconds or so. Also, adaptive battery is still around, it's just somewhat buried under battery saver. I got the Pixel 8 Pro in Porcelain earlier today :)

Floss, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that you bother to actually go through the phone and show it to us. Most reviewers just focus on 2 or 3 things and call that a review and done. It seems they aren't considering as much anymore the purpose of doing a thorough proper review to help inform and influence a purchasing decision (that is unless its an iPhone, then its 3 or 4 videos of all iPhones in surprising detail). But since most reviewers get their phones for free then they just focus on a, increasing trend, of "light" review, especially since they review only the top tier phone, for example I'm interested in the regular 8 but I'm not seeing many reviewers showing it. I mean, I don't have the phone in front of me, I can't experience the things the reviewers go through and if they don't show it you don't know it, unless you do an extensive research. Thanks for being this thorough it does help me with making a informed and prepared purchase decision.

Greatly depends on what you want from your phone! I'm trading my S23U for the Pixel 8 Pro. A bunch of people are gonna say it is a downgrade but I don't game and the Pixel is PLENTY powerful for normal tasks. The UI and AI is what I'm chasing. And... the camera is better at capturing motion (kids) than Samsung. I can't wait! Google is doing amazing things!

I'm trading my S23U 512 in on it. I stopped using my S23U for my pixel 7 pro and my iPhone 13 pro max. Pixel is the only phone that the gimmicks actually simplify my life. No more car warranty calls, pixel takes care of that.

I have both devices and I would not. The Pixel 8 Pro is a big step up to the bully on the block (S23 Ultra) but in my opinion the S23 ultra still offers everything the Pixel 8 Pro does and more.

Pixel voice dictation is on another planet (worlds ahead of every other phone), all of the calling features are Pixel exclusive, the photo editing is far better in Pixels, and there's a ton of other little things (having Google Home controls in the quick settings, for example) that the Pixel does better. Haptics are much better, screen is brighter and more accurate, the camera is much better under non-ideal conditions (kids indoors, for example), tap the back for a shortcut (like screenshot), no wobble due to the camera bar, etc. I'm sure I'm missing more, but there are definitely features the Pixel has that make me jealous as an S23U user.
