@@aaronngo7179 ah man I feel you, mine was a forced upgrade the missus dropped her old phone so she inherited the s22 ultra lol. I can only speak from my experience with the Oppo, it's the best phone I've ever used, camera is shockingly good to be honest, battery life and performance is at least twice as good. I've used Samsung for over 10 years and the last couple of upgrades haven't really felt like upgrades lol, so this has been a awesome experience to upgrade. There's little quirks with the Chinese version, but I never use android auto which is the big one for most people so it's perfect for me

Thank you so much Flossy for bringing up the fact that smartphones are smartphones with a camera not a camera with a smartphone. Too many tech reviewers spend 3/4 of their reviews on the camera of the phones and ignoring other aspects of the phone like battery, software experience, screen resolution, sound, productivity aesthetics, etc... I have a DSLR which is what I use if I want to get the best photos. As such I fast forward most reviews to get past the camera review portion of the video I watch. I do not use my phone's camera on the s23 ultra even though I am told it has a decent camera. To me there will never be a replacement for my DSLR. Say hi to White Shoes!

I LOVE the look of that curved display glass (especially on the top)! And the bezels are incredibly thin, much slimmer than on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple claimed it has „the thinnest borders on any smartphone“ was that actually true when it was released or did the Xiaomi 13 Ultra have the same slim bezels?

For those wondering about how it works on AT&T and Verizon, you need to make sure you have a SIM card that's already activated by a US phone. If you have that, then you can just pop the SIM out of the US phone and put it into the Xiaomi. The problem comes when you're trying to use a non-activated SIM in the Xiaomi in order to activate it. That is when AT&T and Verizon will look at you funny because its an import. T-Mobile is the only one that will work either way.

Another great review. I saw your Chinese ver review a few days ago. I received my 14 Ultra Global ver yesterday morning (15th), so a great surprise, UK release is listed as Mon/18th. Fully enjoyed and agreed with your comments. One major issue I've found is that there's no option for setting up multiple user logins as I currently do on my Huawei Mate Pro. Other than that which will hopefull be addressd in a later HyperOS update, a solid product.

I got the global version with the Xiaomi pad 6 and the photography kit for £1250, thought that was a bargain! Awesome phone, loving it so far and the tablet is really nice too! The photography kit is a nice addition too, I probably wouldn't have bought it, but in this deal I don't mind it at all. If you are in the UK you have 2 more days to get the deal on the MI website! It says that it is pre-order and expected shipping is the 19th, but I got mine the next day! ;)

Honestly, that's why I got my mirrorless camera now. I was tired of upgrading my phone every single year just for the camera. So now I get disappointed every time I use my phone camera because it's just not the same 😂 but I always went with iPhone for a consistency. But now I can stay with Google which I love because of voice text that I'm using right now and I could upload some really good photos

The sensor size increase from the 13u to the 14u may not matter if all you are doing is point and shoot but if you are taking RAW shots, using the priority/manual modes and doing your own editing in lightroom, capture one etc, it will make a massive difference in terms of the dynamic range you can play around with.

Question: Ive only just started playing with RAW shots in Lightroom. And I prefer to post edit photos that I really like. Should the fact that Xiaomi has poor portrait shots off the bat worry me? It shouldn't matter hey, since I'll take the shots in raw and edit anyway... What's your thoughts?

@@aaronngo7179A) I wouldn't really take it on faith that it does bad portrait shots, its a very, very subjective judgement. I wouldn't take any reviewer's take on it on faith - I am not doubting that flossy honestly thinks its a bad portrait shooter - but on the other hand its tuned with Leica colour science, which many hipster portrait photographers (including famous ones like Rankin) will swear by. Honestly though look at some samples and decide for yourself what you like. B) If you think it takes bad portrait shots, why is that? If its the exposure that's off then its an easy fix in lightroom if you are taking raw shots. If the issue is the automatic exposure in "point and shoot" mode, you can easily solve that by shooting in priority mode or taking manual mode shots. Whether that's an easy fix depends on how comfortable you are in setting the exposure yourself, If the issue is the colour science that's off, its an easy fix once you learn how to use your photo editor better. Its not as easy as learning basic exposure but isn't rocket science either.

I might make the switch to the Xiaomi 14U then, I'm really excited to use new camera hardware. I wanted to start my own little camera kit with a nice camera but I think I'll get introuble with my wife due to how expensive it can be (and I'll go all out too). So Ill just stick to the next best thing, a smart phone 🤳🏻. In absolute optimal lighting conditions, EXPERT RAW on my S22U is amazing. It gets a bit trickier in harder lighting conditions. I've taken some very good photos that I'm proud of on the old S22U. I'm just excited to play with a new camera and I think Xiaomi might be the go. Thanks again for the reply 🙏🏻
