When I was stationed at Langley Air Force Base in the Tidewater area my buddy and I would go for Spade fish at the rig off of Virginia Beach. We would buy clams at the grocery store and crack them open and cut them into thirds. The spades can't resist clams, however they can clean your hook in less than one second. We would use a small hook and one or two shot weights so we could feel the bite better. Your video brought back some good memories. Thanks

Very interesting stuff about the southern flounder vs the summer flounder (fluke). I think it's still possible for you to catch a fluke down where you are as that is about the southern limit and you can still catch a southern flounder as far north as southern NJ. The difference is the rings around the spots as someone mentioned and don't get as big as fluke or are as aggressive. Do they taste the same?
@jace1275 жыл бұрын
Northern and southern flounder face the same way. Winter flounder face the opposite way. You tell them apart by the spots. Northern have rings in the spots. Southern have dark spots.

What’s your definition of inshore? And offshore ?
@robertingram79465 жыл бұрын
The reason you can't figure what depth the spade fish are biting is due to the way they school. Generally you will see spade fish in a school feeding as they circle some type of structure (off shore rigs are good). When they circle they also change their depth. Therefore, you may see them near the surface one minute and then much deeper. You can see this on your fishfinder as their school gives more of a diagonal return. Love your videos brother. I've had an Old Town Predator for three years and love it.

I’ve always heard cobia tend to be deep early in the morning and on the bottom then come up mid morning. I’ll try chumming a couple pounds of squid again and focus on that instead of Swiss army ping ponging. It def brings in life and I’ll set up on a structure for a full day like that.

I can't believe you threw back that sheep with it being so heavily prolapsed. You need to get out on a boat and do a shark catch and cook, just make sure to soak it in milk or buttermilk for at least 8 hours before you cook it. Beer battered and fried is a favorite in my house, typically a light lager, though some say Guinness is great because it's so strong and shark is strong. I TOLD YOU THERE WERE TRIGGERS! :P Congrats on finally finding one. On Guam you couldn't put squid in the water without getting a triggerfish.
@EliasVFishing5 жыл бұрын
I’ve been told they survive just fine like that from people I’ve asked. I’m skeptical too, but those big ones are tough and the meat wouldn’t be put to good use. Better chance of survival back in the water than in my cooler.

If you want to catch more Triggerfish, bring some sand fleas with you. They always come inshore when the water gets in the upper 70s. I'm on the outer banks and they come as far in as the pier pilings. Maybe they're more rare inshore down there, I'm not sure.
