Nice catch, too bad you did not stay long enough or limit, that point is a good spot, we bank it sometimes but mostly on a boat, if you they stop biting, move down stream or up steam about 30-50 yards until you find those pods again, they do not go far. Sometime you whack 5-6 fish then it shuts down, you just have to move a little until you find them again, I have actually caught some laying on those rocks as I stand up on my yak. If you had time catch the incoming tide to the end of Wakefield and fish that control section, there is a point not far from there, hit that area at the out going tide as it takes you back to the channel. It is a long trip but you can hit some bulk heads and rip rap on the way to the ferry, easy limits. Your handicap is when you fish with other people, they either have to leave early or equipment failure. During shrimp season, 100 lbs of shrimp is way better than 15 lbs any day. You may not eat shrimp but there are a lot of people you know that do, give people fresh caught shrimp and you make life long friends. I have Texas, Oklahoma, and Lousiana fishing license, I make 1-2 trips a year to Cal, all worth it, you just have to explore more, it beats combat fishing in Galveston and Freeport any day, plus all those horrible stories of people breaking in your truck. Last 20 years making trips to Cal, not one incident, at Galveston, they break in even at your hotel parking lot. Plus, how many times you hear people get their rods stolen at the gas station, I often see cops at the gas station or beach access and some dudes in a pick up truck hauling yaks throwing their hands in the air in frustration, it's laughable. Some sharp shears and quick hands, your FF will disappear quick, those guys got the system down, block the park lot, step out, do their thing in under a minute. I believe it is worth to have a Louisiana license, I hope you find time to explore more there, the spring run is just as good or even better. There is this book by Chester Moore, Flounder Fundamentals, it's a good read for Texas/Louisiana flounder, released in early 2000's , must read if you want to target flounder in that region.
