Cheers guys some really good feedback..I'm the drummer.. this was originally a 45 min jam.. which was recorded on our studio, where we was jamming going from rock to punk to funk reggae on listening back to the 45 min. The record company asked if we could get it down to 3.5 min lol we was able to get it to 13 min . And yes we added percussion on top of the main drums..

Hey John, thanks so much for dropping your comments. This track is one my all time favourites and an absolute classic. Like some of the viewers have said, it always takes me right back to that time. It's brilliant to get some details - I would give my left bollock to hear the 45 minute version! And of course as mentioned a fantastic job done on the drums! Cheers, Jon.

Hey John, I first saw you guys at Madstock in 91. Was hooked from the start. What a fucking great band you guys were; so underrated. I've always wanted to find the lyrics to the songs on Life of Brian. Do you know if they've ever been published? Cheers, Jim@@johntuvey3636

Absolute Classic. Love this epic tune. Heard it when it 1st came out in 92, still love it now in 2024 ❤. Radio 6 played it in full about 3 weeks ago. 1st time heard it all way through on the radio, not just 3 min edit.

Audiophiles, Hey. Where to begin? I guess, thanks are very due for bringing Weekender to peoples attention, particularly for the way you have. I found both your inputs fascinating. Firstly, Clive Langer has to be brought into this story as he played such an integral part in making it possible to record Weekender. He heard the band jam what they had of it during the first recording session with the band to rerecord the song 'Crackerjack' from the album. It grabbed Clive's interest and thwey got to work moulding the half hour jam to what we have, 12 min 53 secs. Clive brought in all the extra musicians, all superbly chosen. Crackerjack was also recorded to a similar high standard along with Better Life in the same sessions. You are correct about the roots of the song, mostly. Yes, we were aiming our cross hairs toward the 'Weekenders' but they are more a symbolic target representing general pretense and how they link the way media, government and law destroys anything they feel out of touch with, anything not under their control and anything they feel threatened by. Cultural youth happenings are swiftly brought into line. Firstly, the negative aspects are headlined to turn the public against it, death and drugs have an instant effect, fear mongering the public to anti, without even knowing what they are anti to. This media storm brings the dilution of the 'scene', the commercialisation and tidy labelling which can be governed and controlled. This is where the Weekenders enter the frame as has happened in every cultural beginning since Elvis gyrating in the 50's. This was where the bullets were being aimed. John, interestingly you have the cover picture of Weekender behind you on the wall. Taken by Dennis Morris while on tour with the Pistols in the latter stages of the Pistols journey. A similar timeline in comparison with our own when Weekender was released. The lady in this picture had just emerged from the toilets in this attire, having entered them in the uniform of an everyday 'secretary'. Her Punk uniform in the Tesco carrier bag, now her punk blouse. It is a Friday night and on Monday morning she will return to work as a secretary. Jimmy in Quadrophenia is reprimanded in the film for wearing his new mohair suit to work, misunderstood and regarded a loose cannon by his work superiors and parents. It was happening to us. Radio chose to cut it short if they played it, though in the past 10 years it has gotten played in its entirety many times. It hs been re-released, remastered and remixed again, just recently. It is celebrated in the documentary 'I Am Weekender ' released this summer by BFI/Heavenly Films and the remastered album is scheduled for release in early new year on vinyl and CD with many extras. I Am Weekender was screened last week on Broadway in New York. Thank you, again, your review is intriguing and I loved hearing your instant reaction, Andy. Please check out the two Andrew Weatherall remixes as well. I'll end here......the bass was played by a roadie on the recording and Barry Mooncult would be.......Bez or no Bez. 😊 Darren 'Des' Penney

Hey Des, thanks so much for reaching out and dropping some fantastic info. I can't tell you how chuffed we both are. It's incredible to me that I'm hearing directly from the source of one of my favourite 90's songs. Of course the research I did for this was limited to generic sources, so it's great to get the inside scoop, and the intent behind it all. I was down south at college when the M25 rave scene was starting and I remember the establishment and press hysteria. I have wondered if there was a story behind the 12" cover image - it did seem loaded. Never thought of the similarities with the punk scene, but once pointed out it's obvious. I hope my (and Andy's new-found) love of this track comes across. It's good to know it's being kept alive, and we've done a tiny bit to help with that. Thanks again so much for your comments. Cheers, Jon.

@theaudiophiles7889 please, do check out the documentary. It has a host of people talking about the influence of the song and film including Irvine Welsh, Jeff Barret, Clive Langer, Lynne Ramsey and more. Also opening up the wider cultural significance of the time, as well. I loved watching and hearing you both, it is fascinating hearing fresh, first-hand opinion as it's being listened to. Of course, we would not compromise to an edit and London Records were baffled how to proceed. They didn't drop us but we managed to escape the deal courtesy of Heavenly and Sony. We have a fantastic new remix by Beyond the Wizard Sleeve (Richard Norris and Erol Alkan) for early new year as we begin the promotional campaign for the remastered album and there is also a new album, recorded before we lost Liam. 2024 is going to be great for FU. Thanks, guys

Weekender is an anthem that totally encapsulates the acid house scene…I still get the same feeling from it, 30 odd years later. It really spoke of us as well as speaking to us. So, so good.

Only 831 views, WTF?!? For an epic tune from a unique time with two of the band members chipping in in the comment section! Absolutely insane! When this tune came out I was 22, and I was heavily into the dance music scene so my friends and I were 'weekenders'. I had heard the tune fairly shortly after the release but as it wasn't dance music I overlooked it at the time and it wasn't until a couple of decades later (after my raving days were over) that I could properly appreciate the masterpiece that it is.

I was 18 when this came out, was living that Weekender lifestyle at that time and this was my anthem, especially as getting ready to go out and ‘av it large’ 😂 I liked a few Flowered Up tunes in the 90’s, but I still to this day sit in wonder how they came up with this ALL TIME BANGER, epic, musically gifted, Liams southern drawl, how the hell did they come up with this? May even play this at my funeral just to get em going! PS - please tell me you watched the video too 🙏 great times

Went on a bit too long for my taste, I'm a 24-hour party pooper. E'ed up rather than flowered? I enjoyed Andy's chuckle when he learnt that the 7th president was on bass. (For some reason, YT has been feeding me U2's entire catalogue. I never knew they'd done so many pointless covers.) Oboe is more nasal/reedy than clarinet, and very rare in popular music; though Macca seems fond of it.
