I did a video almost two years ago on how to avoid tilting that focused on exactly what you note about high level players emotional state and vocal tone. Understanding flow state really does boil down to non-judgemental awareness. As a Zen Buddhist I learned this concept through meditation and the flow state concept is a cornerstone of the teaching. It’s great to have this reinforcement from a sports psychology pro. Great video as usual. Thanks for reinforcing my own philosophy in this game, it really does mean a lot. In a sea of “jump into free play” tutorials, it’s nice to hear more in-depth analysis of the mental aspects and have meaningful drills to build that mental state up. Kudos!🤝

LOL at the "jump in to freeplay" thing - I kinda rip on that idea in my next video 😛 But I'm glad you agree! I study a lot of Buddhism in regards to meditation philosophy, and I'm glad you see the connection!

One thing I played around with when trying to improve my awareness was to verbalise (not necessarily out loud but at least mentally) what I was doing and why, and where other people were positioned/how dangerous the position was. As with most things, training it made me worse for a while but then much better (~2-3 ranks)

I think Lethamyr's road to ssl series is a great example of this. Firstly, he is so aware that he's almost prophetic in his he calls out what's gonna happen before it does. But also doesn't judge his teammates, when in low ranks. He calls out their mistakes, but only for the sake of educating his viewers. But then, he doesn't blame his teammates for those mistakes. He almost blames himself for not properly adapting to what they're doing. He also calls out his own mistakes--all three of them.

Awesome as always! I think this is precisely what I've been missing and so far it has not been explained to me the way I needed to hear it until now. So yes! Talk more! This video was 10 mins long, but felt like 1min 20 seconds! Perfect! Also, one thing I've noticed is that people that are good in RL are also good in other games, so far, I haven't been able to figure out why, but I think this subject, not just awareness, is exactly why they succeed everywhere. It's the psychology of competition. Keep it up!

I think its so cool how you give your perspective and focus on the psychology of the game rather than the mechanics/other. At the end of the day mechanics are just part of a game they don't really matter in real life.. But the psychology behind thought processes and decision making, as they relate to information gathering ...(awareness), transcend the game and into life. I think this information is extremely underrated and I hope this channel continues to grow for your benefit and for this community. The few, the proud, the "B" team! (cuz the answer was always B, lol) Anyway, the examples you gave with Squishy and Musty, were a nice touch and really helped drive home the point. Well done, sir. Good luck

Thank you Troy! I definitely agree, I think sport/competition is an awesome way to develop more as a person in general, so I like to focus on those elements where the two most overlap :)

Your point on the monotone voice is a lot like how poker players look at hand outcomes. It's expected value - you made a shot/play that hypothetically would work X% thus you either continue to do it if positive value or stop if negative. It's simpler when you only have to look at 52 cards so the experience of thousands of hours is the only way you can start to understand expected value in a game with this many variables. And that's continues on the point of "taking in the information" not responding to it. The more information you have, the more informed your next decision is allowing you to make more likely positive outcome decisions. Fun stuff.

Nice vid, as usual. I tend to verbally trash my random teammate but in quick chat say "No problem" (because obvs focusing on their mistake is not going to help them play better in the moment)... when _really_ I should be aiming to not be judgey at all. Teammate has a tendency to whiff? Okay, with that knowledge I should try to back them up more. Adjust to the situation instead of just complaining about it. That's my goal of where I want to be, but I think it'll take me a long time to get there. :(
