Exactly! Funny how the commentators completely ignored that during all that de la hoya windmilling and not landing squat. Floyd was just sitting in the pocket, relaxed, rolling, and landing right hands. This fight was not close at all. Floyd was landing over 50% of his punches. People really need to turn down the audio when watching fights because Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley really don't know much about boxing.
@Persadish12 жыл бұрын
Watch the fight with sound = sounds like Oscar is winning Watch the fight without sound = shows that Oscar's punches never land. Oscar looks great in this fight, but holy crap Mayweather is amazing at defense. He sees every punch, blocks and moves with superhuman reflexes. A much better fight than I remember it being.

FYI For those of you who don't know, especially the haters, Floyd Jr agreed to all of Oscar's terms just to get this fight with him and yet some people still make excuses for Oscar losing. Floyd couldn't even pick his own gloves, that's how much pull Oscar has in the Boxing game.

@Transformers217 I see your point, but let me ask you something.....what would be the biggest boxing story the year?; Mayweather KO'ing Pacquiao or Pacquiao KO'ing Mayweather? The answer to that question tells you who is REALLY the biggest draw in boxing.

:32 Mayweather can't trade, :41 pop shots don't stop a real puncher who will let their hands go! 1:58 great move by Oscar against the faint moving forward with the combo. 3:01 great way to deal with Floyd's arm wrestling by maintaining separation and throwing. 4:27 Floyd is very weak in the center of the ring with a good boxer. 7:03 Mayweather got what he was looking for - Fatigue which was the only winner against De La Hoya in this fight. I ain't hatin on Floyd, but he's not better than Oscar

I see a lot of weaknesses in mayweather that pacquiao would be able to exploit. Oscar had his opportunities but just doesn't have the power, accuracy, handspeed, combinations, footwork, and stamina like pacquiao does. Pacquiao would have definitely hurt or knocked mayweather out in one of those dozen times mayweather got caught on the ropes. Don't get me wrong, floyd is an amazing technician, but his weakness is somebody who can punch with power and speed and relentlessness like pacquiao.

@KillaKev256 Can't be too sure about that because Ortiz had found openings that weren't there in the previous rds. At that particular moment Floyd had not yet adjusted to Ortiz's surge of agressiveness. it wasn't De La Hoya aggression. Ortiz landed combos flush. Could Floyd really have stayed in charge? With the age gap and long layoff it's not for sure. We really needed to see at least 2 or 3 more rds to get questions answered about both fighters.

Floyd can smile all he likes but he simply can not block a double jab. Manny could be too quick for him, out-work him, and the combination of a straight left to the body, right hook upstairs would cause Floyd trouble all night in my opinion
@IceeThirdd12 жыл бұрын
What I see the first 3 to 4 rounds fighters try to take it to Floyd some kind of way but his defense is just to good then later in the fights Floyd's accurate punches land flush and the fighters are out of there. Floyd Mayweather one of the best to ever do it. Just to accurate for these boys.

Uhm, no. In rd 3, Oscar landed 10 out of 47, Floyd 17 out of 40. Clearly Floyd's round. Rd. 4, Oscare landed 29/108, Floyd 33/58. Floyd's round.

@2:12 a younger Oscar could've countered with a left hook that would've rocked Mayweather. @2:39 Floyd gets confident when fighters stop using the jab. This is the time to let your hands go. @sweetscience211 You made good points. However this shows that a quality boxer who can throw a variety of punches will give Floyd problems. If De La Hoya had been stronger in the later rds he would've exposed many things in Floyd. A good boxer can accommodate Floyd's adjustments by making their own as Oscar did, and can beat Floyd THE SAME WAY everytime. But Floyd's conditioning won this fight, & he was counting on that.

@26JIGGAMAN thats what i tell so many people. You cant go toe for toe. what you get from that is a manny pacqiao vs hatton fight.to me mayweather Jr reminds me of those patriot superbowl team which i hated- they always won those close defensive games 17-14, 21-18. always three point games. but it was there type of games. during that same period you had the colts winning games 38 -17 double digit wins. but when the colts played the pats they always ended up loosing. mayweather slows down the game

It's only a close fight if you think the commentators are being fair in what they're saying. Which they're not. Oscar wasnt landing anything throughout the fight, just exciting the crowd. Sure Floyd had to keep his guard up, but that doesnt make his fight that close. I'll tell you one thing is for damn sure, Oscar didnt win 7 rounds.
@Jayluvv70213 жыл бұрын
@sweetscience211 Oscars overall ring presence bothered Floyd. With his quick jab & aggression Oscar prevented Floyds opportunities to counter and never allowed Floyd to get comfortable. The flurrys were working by backing Floyd up and establishing room to box. Floyd couldn't cheat in close with Oscar. Thats were Floyd breaks his opponents down - inside. Oscar wasn't allowing it. The heavier gloves explains why Oscar didn't throw the left hook much because Floyd was wide open for it all night.

@Jayluvv70213 жыл бұрын
@sweetscience211 Quick adjustments will get to Floyd. Thats why he isn't the best in the center of the ring. When a fighter adjusts on the fly, it frustrates Floyd & he clinches. Floyd's not very good at really quick adjustments which is why pressure brings success against him. Ortiz exposed that. Oscar was actually changing up at a faster pace. But Floyd does make very smart & effective adjustments. When Floyd's adjustments work he sticks with them which makes his fights look different.
