Hi, I am a drummer... VST drumming. And ... I just wanted to jam with some background tracks. Then I tried so free guitar VSTs and amp sims. Long story short: I ended up with some Donner guitars and a used Harley Benton with Floyd Rose Special. And I love to word an these low budged guitars. Polished the frets, oiled the board, truss rod, string action, new strings. I changed the trem of the $72 donner DST 100 :) just for fun. Because besides a few power cords I cannot play with my drummer sausage fingers. Anyway, I was so happy to grab a used guitar with Floyd Rose trem but after the new strings...one evening of trying some dive boms, and Dimebag squeals two popped out. A few videos later I thought about buying new high quality saddles or a Gotoh system. But then...I just did the this hack. And put some oil to every moving part. But then I tried this "finger tight and an 1/8 turn" But on this soft metal saddles the stringtn popped out again. Now I really cranked them up. And I think now I am fine... It worked. And it stays in tune actually. Great, thank you, dude. I was not aware of these damaged saddles. That was before I knew that they used zinc metal for this construction. Damn . Why.

Ah, I only used sandpaper. But there where literally some small metal grains coming off. I saw a video ( uploaded 6 years ago) about some tiny metal plates with a "neck" that could be placed into the worn our saddles. Are these still available somewhere?

I have one Floyd Rose guitar that's perfect. I have a 2nd one where the high E & B strings slip out of bridge. String doesn't break, just glides right out no matter how much I torque down the bolt. Replaced the blocks, still happens. Any suggestions on how to make strings NOT slide out? thanks!

I still use the old style non locking fine tuning bridges on my main guitars and have never ever had a tuning or problems what so ever with it. I'd build me a Anderson tele and haven't been able to play a single song on it or change strings on it without strings slipping out. The guitar sits in it's stand in the living room being Pretty And brandnew..

Mine kept slipping out, so I tightened them a bit more and it stripped the threads.. 😕 Now i have some stainless steel saddles from japan and they seem much nicer! And you can tighten them a little bit more.

This is hilarious knowing Jackson is selling the Rob Cavestany signature for over £/$1200 with a floyd rose special. Absolute joke.

What do you think about floyd rose originals?
@carminep.59603 ай бұрын
much better than specials, the originals are german made and german steel is much higher quality and stronger, you wont have these problems that you have with the specials on an original

I have the exact same guitar that you showed in the video, my strings keep slipping out and it's driving me insane. At this point I think that buying a new bridge is the only solution
@dualone264910 ай бұрын
A good solution is to leave the threaded part (the part just before the metal ring that you cut off) of the string and put that inside of the saddle instead of the thin part of the string. It will give the saddle something to grip onto and will prevent it from slipping out.

Cant you put OG saddles on it and grade 8 steel blocks and have the special be as good as OG or 1000? would be much cheaper on guitars like this that include Floyd Special than replacing the entire unit. Heard the baseplate is grade 8 on Floyd Special but the saddles and blox are grade 5

I can tell you that I’ve sharpened a lot of special blades, but very rarely an original. If I were in that situation I’d either fork up the cash for a 1984 or get a Gotoh if I didn’t want to spend that much.

For a little bit more you can build your own bridge from FU-Tone.

Keep in mind, buying a new guitar with a FR Special is paying for something devided by the cost of an ACTUAL Floyd Rose Tremolo. These are expensive by their own and therfor you might end up buying something with a sort of below zero value, if you catch my drift...

The screw hole on one of my saddles is stripped... I've tried every which way to N rig it but i'm literally shit outta luck... fml Now i'm gonna have to order a new saddle set

Buy the titanium blocks. Completely correct about the Gotoh GE1996T tremolo. M uch better mouse trap and half the price of an FR.

Is it an actual Floyd Rose? Or a Chinese knockoff?
@jed_shred_guitars Жыл бұрын
Both. It’s Floyd rose brand but made in Korea I believe out of much softer metal. Never buy one unless you are willing to upgrade it in a few years

@@jed_shred_guitars I did buy one for a project guitar. (Check my channel for the Ibanez RG170) It won't get much use though. Of all my guitars, my go-to is the Ibanez Jem Jr with the Gotoh GE1996T. 🙂

It should be illegal 🚫 for a floyd rose special to come on a guitar, probably why they get such a bad name from new players when a 1000+ series is way less problematic

The best way to avoid problems with a Floyd Rose is not to buy one. I have never seen one that works worth a damn. Always out of tune. The work that goes into keeping them in tune is just not worth it. Don't get one.
