When he drags the threshold dot to the bottom left, what is the difference if he just dragged it straight down? I always been dragging it straight down but this guy is dragging it bottom left

straight down will make a gate as he showed (muting every element below the threshold)

Fruity Limiter also has RMS compression. The sustain knob controls the window, so any sustain value above 0 is RMS. Linear phase mode in maximus also won't deal with intersample peaks. The reason why you get lower peaks with linear phase filters is because you are preserving the phase relationship with the band splits
@theMixElite2 жыл бұрын
Good one with the Limiter Compressor Sustain, I realized that after recording. Inter-sample peaking isn't something we can fight, but only with the linear phase we can just make sure that the ceiling we set in the saturation is actually keeping the true peak. That's what I meant.

2 years ago I bought your courses. I seriously wanted to produce but I didn't understand much of your lessons because it was so much information that oo came to me. then i started watching other youtube tutorials. yes i learned from other tutorials but i kept getting stuck with the same problems. I took your courses again this year and I immediately understood what you meant. in fact, you make better points than other youtubers who basically do the same thing as everyone else. now I can't actually produce anymore without a course from you thanks for all the help you give to people

Wow, I was always afraid of Maximus and instead used the normal limiter/compressor which is easier to understand. From this video I will start to use it to compress vocals and many other parts. For mastering I still prefer my Ozone stuff, but this video opened my mind about Maximus, thanks for your work :)

Really great tool. I think Maximus should be updated to new 5or7 bands ver. 3bands is not enough. And needs all band pre-input, LR mode, MS saturation, easier on-off comparison button, some view-options too... :)

@16:42 hey Max, i think you are wrong about intersample peaks and linear phase . Linear phase processing is about no phase change due to filters. And intersample peaks is due to oversampling causing extra peaks due oversampling then downsampling internally by the plugin for minimizing the aliasing
@theMixElite2 жыл бұрын
I addressed that already somewhere, with linear phase we can make sure that the ceiling we set in the saturation is actually keeping the true peak - so Linear Phase ON = no inter-sample peaking

Can I get a clarification on the part @ 16:41 , what do you mean the Linear Phase button won't allow "inter sample"(?) peaks past the ceiling? I've never heard of this "inter-sample" term before, and why the vague wording on "the ceiling you set--for example, here." Why specifically did you say "for example" as if to imply that there is also a different way for it to interact with a different parameter?

Lol. These are all the things that I learned to do correctly but, never actually figured out what tf was happening….for reference. I’m like 9 years into fl. My thought process was “smooth= smooth. Sharp is sharp. Rms is smooth. I don’t 100% love how none of these mb comps have an auto gain match for each band. Like, I find that you can compress the highs almost in a ny fashion. Just aggressive. Cuz, it’s harder to screw up phase the higher you go. But, that being said, it’s easier to kinda screw up transients the higher you go. Cuz, with lower bands, it’s more “wub” and less “tin”. If you sharpen the transients on a low end, it usually just adds a mid frequency thing. And so on. It’s weird. So my strat has been to export the track, with the sidechain on. And the drums, sub and instruments separate. And to like master with these all actually detached. If there’s vocals, I’ll export those separately as well. Pretty much ozone, master rebalance but, it’s way better. This way, you can really slam the highs down, and than (if you still have your midi information and automation set in the track) you can rout back in the sidechains and really keep the drums sounding punchy, without having to saturate the ass out of them before the final compression. Oh yeah. This also is nice because you can see with the sidechain info, exactly how loud your drums need to be in order to fill the gaps. And , you can use your instrument’s bass information, the separated sub, and the drums to analyze where masking is required. Usually for me, I’ll re make the sub sidechain after checking the duration of the compressed drum’s sun range, or use patchers “multiband sidechain” to really make sure there is no sub phasing. I this way, you can pretty much analyze every element block and make sure nothing is being perceived differently when mastering…..which should be the goal. Because, I suck ass at mastering. But, I’m dece at mixing. So usually I can get to like -4.8 lufs with a limiter and a gain knob. But, it’s basically because I’m using gain and eq masking to compress the track to begin with. Which really has me wondering if that’s always necessary or if, I should just really learn how to use an mb comp properly, and maybe chill out on masking. Cuz if I could do this and have the track sound the same, that would be easier once I actually got past the “is this too much” phase.

When you upload an audio file, is it possible to invert it for beat ducking for vocals? Thinking about it would it be only a small section of the audio uploaded? 5:52

I can't find out the difference between the two saturation types. Even the official manual just says "left is type A. Right is type B" but doesn't say what the difference is. I searched Google with multiple advanced searches and can't find anybody else even asking the question on any forum
