This video was very helpful. I tried doing this years ago and it took forever. I couldn't get the tank level. After watching this, I think I can handle it next time. The son/cameraman was a great touch. 🙂

A rep at Fluidmaster tried to tell me that this kit wouldn't work on a Mansfield toilet. After consulting with a few other sources I decided to try it, and it works just fine. Just make sure you tighten the tank to bowl nuts evenly. And although you don't want to over tighten them you do want to go a turn past hand tighten or they can loosen and cause a leak. This kit provides much better flushing power than a crummy Mansfield plunger valve.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This is the only video that doesn’t speed up and give half-baked explanations! I followed right long with you (after I unscrewed the nuts) and it wasn’t bad. I had my cordless earphones on, so as you were speaking and explaining, I was putting it together. Not bad for a 60 year old woman with arthritis and weak muscle tone! For what it’s worth, my kit was just like your kit, but mine came with tools (which was why I sought out your video…I thought it was part of the commode fixtures). 😅 Oh! And it also came with three bolts and screws. But it ONLY came with three screws, three nuts, three washers and three gaskets (rubber washers). So I used one of the washers from the old fixture and a couple of tiny rubber bands to hold the washer in place as I was placing the tank back in it’s spot. And I covered the bolts with coconut oil so it won’t rust…hopefully. Thank your son for breaking the handle for me. Your video really helped!

You should have cut the overflow tube extension so it is below the handle opening about an inch. so if the shut-off valve does not shut the water off. Then the excess water can go into the overflow tube this is a safety measure. If the overflow tube is as high as the handle the water can leak and go all over your floor and keep running until you notice it.

My tank was leaking after following the instructions that came with the flush valve. Problem solved after applying the extra washer and hex nut right below the tank as you suggested. Thank you very much!

Whenever you’re dealing with a thread and nut from above, you need to reverse “righty tighty, lefty loosey”. (It’s the same rule, but optically its different.” That’s why your valve seemed to be the reverse. This also made you put your thread tape on in the reverse way. Aside from that and cutting your fill tube to be below your flush handle, this was a great video.

I'm getting ready to watch with my fingers crossed this video solves my issues. I have a Mansfield #106 toilet and am replacing both the flush and fill valves. However, I did not buy the kit. Instead bought the 2 units separately. I've removed both units and all is going well.....until I go to put the new units into the tank. Foe the life of me I can not figure out the height for the new fill and flush valves. To make it even worse, the inside of the tank was gross so I cleaned it without marking a water line. It's sat torn apart in my bathroom for three days now 😅😢

Should have mentioned that there are two different thicknesses of nuts. The thinner nuts should go against the bottom of the tank and thicker nuts on the bowl side.

My only issue was not putting any nut/washer directly under the tank (using the thinner nuts). Had a slow leak on the back. Added those and the leak was fixed. Great video.

Should have had a rubber washer on the underside of the tank bolts before the metal washer and nut. Then hand tighten, then go 1/4 turn. Don't use plumbers tape on your supply line. No need. The part has a rubber gasket, neither side of your new supply line needs to be taped.

What happens if there isn’t a rubber washer there? They only gave me washers for the inside of the tank. I had to use older washers for the underside so I’d have it in this order: bolt - rubber washer - tank - washer - tiny rubber band (to hold washer in place as it’s being positioned into the holes) - commode - washer - nut.

Only issue is some instructions say to put bolt, rubber washer, then rubber washer, metal washer, nut under tank then finally metal washer, nut. Gives extra protection for water leaks from tank. wish my kit came with extra rubber washers for extra protection.

Using rubbers for protection is generally always a good idea.

You’d risk a leak as the rubber seals for the 3rd screw could be brittle. At the very least, pick up a pack of new rubber seals.

After he flipped the tank it does show rubber washers on the underside of the tank, which is proper.

What made you decide to not use the Mansfield parts this time?

It takes far more pressure to depress the flush handle with the Mansfield parts, than it does with Fluidmaster. It’s not a huge deal for my wife or I, but the kids have a harder time with it. Also, for the DIY’er, the shopping list is nice and easy. Great question!

U may get better use out of ur (channel locks) if you was not using them backwards
