This is my new daily driver. I'm an industrial service electrician in the USA. The field sense tech for me is a MAJOR safety feature ...!! I mainly work on 480 volt motors and this allows me to work safely while wearing PPE... Worth every penny...🙌

I’ve been looking for answers on how it measures 480 or phase to phase voltage. We have a big pole light retrofit job coming up, and I’ve been looking at this model. Are you actually getting 480v measurements with the fieldsense? Or is it only giving you phase to ground voltage?
@MrMaxyield
@MrMaxyield Жыл бұрын
@wm79198 The fork only gives phase to ground amperage and voltage. For phase to phase measurement you would need to use the probes. It's a great meter but I will say that sometimes the fieldsense voltage readings are unreliable.

The back grounding pad was terribly misunderstood by electricians with much more hysterical imagination than education. Interesting NOTE: if you’re using a non contact volt tester to see if a wire is live, or the NCV feature in the top of a Fluke 117, when you’re standing on a concrete floor in contact with earth, (this is more dramatically obvious with the 117 set in High sensitivity) first move it toward a live wire and take careful note of the distance at which it lights up/beeps. Now - take s shoe off m, plant your bare foot on the concrete and repeat the test. Notice how much further away it seems the electrostatic field and alerts you to the live wire⚠️‼️ You just increased the sensitivity of the instrument’s detection ability by grounding yourself. But you’re still safe. Same exact principle with the grounding pad on the T6-1000 “non-pro” original version. That grounding pad was not a low impedance connection to electrical energy. No Way! Fluke’s lawyers would never have allowed them to put that on the market if there was a one in a million chance somebody could get hurt. It was engineered by people who have degrees in electrical engineering - not by electricians whose thinking is wild and baseless. Loose Nuts!! If you want a lesson on impedance, take one lead of your meter, say 117, hold it or put it in your mouth for real fun, and contact power with the other. ⚡️[But please, not on LoZ] ⚡️ You will feel nothing. Just like the grounding pad on the original T6-1000. Lesson done. Barefoot connection to ground will improve function of your NCV tester, and maybe holding a wire connected to a ground. Read the paperwork with your Fluke NCV tester and you will find a sentence about reasons it may not function properly, one of the reasons hinting at too much isolation from ground/earth. I read that and did the experiment with all 3 models of Fluke NCV testers, my 117, a Greenlee NCV tester, and all picked up indication of voltage enough further away to be really obvious when I took a shoe off and planted that foot on the basement floor I was standing on. Try it!! I once had a situation where my NCV testers would not pick up the field from a thickly insulated old 3-wire cable that was definitely energized at full voltage. Next time I have a situation in which I question a non indication, I’m getting out my Fluke 117 and setting it on high sensitivity … and maybe take off a shoe?!!!🤷🏼‍♂️🤔

The green backlight is an awesome feature. I had the T5-1000 for years and eventually the squeaker stopped working so had to bin it but recently got the fluke 324. Awesome meters and wouldn’t recommend anything else. Great video to mate.

I have one , great unit ! I also use a 376 , with the I flex , for situations where the jaws of either unit are a bit of an issue ! I’m a large calibre Fluke Fanboy . Fluke leads are superior . They also have a battery operated test block , so safe pre testing of the unit is possible .

This has to be joke, how would fluke make their money if they put all the features into one single meter, you don’t think they could make a meter with field sense on one end and a clamp on the other with volt alert and multi decimal and an flex jack and microfarads testing all in one device?
@MegaPartyVan

@@joshuasechter5306 I don't think asking for a single decimal in voltage resolution is the same as asking for the full lineup of Fluke features in a single compact meter.

First video on this new version I’ve seen and it’s an Aussie. I have a T6-600 and I love it but it seems a lot of my fellow Americans only complain and call it dangerous and have been generally ignorant and contributed to giving it a bad reputation. I’m not sure what electricians in other parts of the world have to say. If I had the money I would get this hands down. I love these things for all their features and I think FieldSense has amazing potential. It would be nice if the voltage reading had a decimal for DC testing. Seems Fluke axed the back grounding pad from all the complaining.
@AddictedtoTools

Yeah they got rid of the back grounding pad. Seems that it’s a hit for safer testing. I’ve been loving it. Only thing I would change is longer leads.

You still using this? for the price it would have been nice to have capacitance and diode. Apart from that any dramas had with the leads being moulded and proprietary? they seem pretty deadly for 3 phase or DC with close contact with no real way to change loadout.

Hey mate. I mainly do comms/data/av but the boss has just taken on a sparky so I’ll probably do a sparky apprenticeship. Is this a good all round meter? Anything it can’t do that other clamp meters or multimeters can?
@AddictedtoTools
@AddictedtoTools 3 жыл бұрын
hey mate. it’s a great all round meter. if you’re just doing basic electrical, it’s perfect. depending on price, you could look at the t5-1000. the main difference is the newer field sense and the t6 goes up from 100amps to 200.

@@AddictedtoTools Thank you for the reply. I did see that there is a special visa for Powerline Electricians as there is a shortage, but that would take me an extra 3 years before I could apply for that visa as I am about to start my commercial/residential apprenticeship soon. Does this meter test amps like the t5 1000 does if you place the load wire in between the jaws and don't use the ground lead? Or do you have to connect the negative to ground before it does anything? I'm curious because I looked through the manual and it doesn't mention that. As much as I can see the value of the fiedlsense it isn't always possible to use a ground connection - what if the appliance is double insulated and doesn't reference a metal ground point? What then - would you connect it to neutral? Isn't that kinda missing the point 🤔 If that's the case it would be stupid because there isn't a amp meter I've ever used of this design that needs a ground lead to measure amps. I'd hoped you might know the answer 🙂
