Jene I think the reason it gets stuck when deploying is the the prop is on the side where the mount pushes the motor the heavy end should be on the side where the motor mount releases it 6:06 the things sticking up right about the letter d is what deploys it you want the heavy end on that side not the prop see how at 5:55 see how the heavy end wants to go but it needs a little push that’s where the little push things helps the heavy end pushes the rest down cause of inertia.

Great video! Hope it helps a lot of people. I did mine a little differently. My cable for the foot release goes through a Hobie through hull kit in and out of the kayak next to my left foot. And I have a deck guide installed upside down next to my hatch to keep it up out of the way. I use an eyelet on my right forward gear track to hold my motor pull cord. I am going to move the time point of the motor to be like yours to force the motor on its side. I currently just stand up and pull it back to lock. If I'm just putting it up for shallow stuff, I tie it off on a gt cleat.

In all your time fishing with trolling motor on bow of kayak, have you ever snagged fishing line on trolling motor when landing a fish (or casting/reeling in general)? Seems to be my only concern at the moment. Love your videos; keep us the great work. Go Dawgs!

@flukemaster just turn your front pulley upside down. have it mounted on the inside that way the Amstel is going the direction the pulley is designed for, it shouldn't bind then right?

Gene, how do you deal with the pull cable being firmly attached to a shaft that spins as the trolling motor is being operated? Do you have problems with the cable wrapping around the shaft or getting tangled around other items at the front of the boat when using "the spot lock" feature? Thanks

How is the drilled release pedal holding up? I see OBX has some sort of metal bracket they make that attaches to the bottom of the pedal. Just making choices over here...

Hey Gene, what’s do you use to keep the rope from sliding down the shaft on the MotorGuide and from wrapping up when turning. Thanks for your time sir.

Gene, would it be worth while to put a strong enough section of shock cord to assist in pulling the shaft forward on deployment to avoid having to manually push it with a paddle? More lines = more headache and weight, but it was the first idea that popped into my mind. I definitely like the set up.

I think you will find it releases better if you store it with the prop on the opposite side so if you looking from the seat to the bow prop on left side pull cord on the right side. Let me know if it helps also I spray some silicone spray on the peddle release parts under just to keep it free

simple spring mech at tm head can fix your deploy issue. stowed spring is depressed hit latch springs push head forward. uses 2 1/2" spring on each side when you pull up , head compresses spring . when depressing latch spring pushes out tm head and it goes. did this with my 85 lb haswing works like a champ . had xi3 on a yak i sold with same basic mech.

That sounds great. The only thing that worries me about metal springs is exposure to salt water. I’d have to replace than too often.

I use a Torqeedo 1103 on the back and an Xi3 at the same time when I’m fishing and love it but when I’m forced by KBF rules to choose between the two I go with the Xi3 because it’s more than just a propulsion motor. It’s a fishing tool.
