Gene, you really do so much for the bass fishing community. No gimmicks, no selling, no click bait, just passion for fishing and teaching. You, Glenn may, and the Travian bassin guys are the only ones I can watch (very occasionally Tyler Reels). But I've learned more technique specific stuff from you. Anytime i need to know how to do something i just Google it , ie. "How to tie a fg knot flukemaster". You can tell when someone truly loves teaching, that's why I sick to my main 3 channels. You should do a video with the tactical bassin guys, i belive they do stuff for/ with tackle wharehouse.

I always watch my line on the jig's initial fall after splash down. I am ready to set the hook at the slightest line twitch. I have caught several nice bass this way. You can miss these bites if not paying attention. When you cast to "bassy" looking areas such as structure, drop offs, holes, and ledges, this can happen fairly often.

I fish a jig daily, football in Rocky situations and swim jig on most others. I cut the skirt at the back of the hook, the skirt at the front I pull forward and cut it 1/8" in front of line tie. I always trim my guard like Gene did, if it's too stiff I'll pull 1-2 bristles until it's to my liking. Cast out and hold on, the jig always works every time.
@brianjoe14253 жыл бұрын
I just cut or pull out most of my weed guards. If you’re trimming them that much, they’re pretty useless…might as well just cut them.

About three years ago I started looking for tips to help graduate from a guy that fishes, to a fisherman. I've fished my whole life, but it's dumbfounding how much I didn't know. Simple things like the difference between tips of line and when to use them and different rod actions. I upgraded my Zebco 303s and Walmart specials to Lews and Abu Garcia combos, and started trying to figure out how to use things other than crank baits. So far, this is the best video I've found on jigs. I got a few bass on his last year, but this simple shot video taught me A LOT about how I was using them wrong. Thanks!!! Now I'm just waiting for the ice to melt so I can put away my ice fishing gear and start FISHING again!!!!

Good advice. I'm definitely going to put it to work and see how I do. I always struggle with a jig but I have caught a lot on the bitsy bug jig but it's way smaller. I have the same struggles with a chatterbait. I still have not caught a fish or had a bite on one. I think it's just a confidence thing and I know I'm usually in a good spot because I usually switch to a crankbait and just hammer them.

Thanks for your vids. I'm fairly new to fishing. Put a jig on the line and from a low walk bridge stuck it in the water to see what it looked like and WHAM, caught a little 12" bucket mouth as soon as the lure got wet. The coolest thing ever! That was three or four months ago and, although I've lost a few lures, I never caught anything with a jig since. I'll try you technique and see what happens. Thanks pal.

Where I do most of my fishing a jig in peanut butter and jelly with a purple netbait paca chunk and it's very productive on bass. I also use black and blue and if the water is stained I use a white jig with a strike king white lobster trailer or a black jig and a red lack fork craw trailer very good in dirty water.

When you cut the weed guard on a jig, it actually makes it harder to collapse due to less leverage than a longer one. It does help make it more weedless though.
@jholl73393 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but you're not really cutting a lot off, at least in this case. sometimes, if you do, you can snip away one or two guard bristles, to help it out.
@kylemolletfishing91233 жыл бұрын
@@jholl7339 correct. If I want my weed guard to be less stiff, I remove some of the bristles. I get clients on guide trips all the time that are cutting them because they think it makes it softer but it's the other way around.

Dude!!! I have been waiting on this!!!!!!!!!!!! I just starting buy jogs and trailers to start fishing deep here on Hartwell. Been doing tons of research but trust your knowledge!! Thanks Gene!
@theduckman88143 жыл бұрын
To me I use jigs to pick apart an area. Football heads for rocks and hard bottoms, typically deeper. Flipping for light weed cutting. I go by weight based off of time of the year, lighter for when they're lethargic for a slower fall. Heavier for a more aggressive bite. Really nice when you know they're there but not sure where. Around logs and shadows. 2-3 flips and try a new spot. Googan trailer is less aggressive then the rage tail for less aggressive times. But the rage tail or X Zone is a good aggressive presentation.
