The best thing about Flula's appearances on Conan is Conan's genuine delight at him being there. Some guests Conan performs for or interviews, but with Flula, he pretty much just sits back and enjoys the show.

Loved the episode. Flula is living proof that there is something like a specifically German sense of humor and it can be funny. It's thundering, gawky, agressive and naive, but also very sweet and humble. And he takes his foolishness so seriously, notice he doesn't break character once. On the surface there is all these dadaist fireworks, but you never get to meet the real person because he's so busy doing what he's most efficient at.

He doesn't have a single timer/reminder telling him to stop his over the top cliché German shtick I guess. And no that's not criticism - his Germans shtick is so far over the top it's good again. Not to mention the contradiction of him understanding everything in English but never "actually" learning how to speak with less of an accent. It's the combination of someone fluent in English but talking like they never learned it - on holiday reading from a English-German translation book(!).

I remember the last time, sadly, before the cameras in this studio.
