Honestly, I was disappointed to see the turn the discussion about weed took. Although I understand Beth's opinion was mostly based on prejudices, I don't think you need to try everything to make an informed decision about whether it's right for you, and you don't have to agree with or share all your partner's interests to make the relationship work (you don't have to give up on them either). A partner should be someone with whom you can be yourself and who encourages you to make the changes you want in your life, not threaten you to change. That's why you need to acknowledge and respect the other person's individuality as well as your own, know your boundaries and values and make sure they're actually compatible. And to be fair, I was excited to see a character who wasn't into weed, just to have a different depiction of the Australian youth (I read most don't smoke weed) and seeing Beth try it just to be able to accept her girlfriend, when she could have, I don't know, researched about it? Being such a bookworm as she is... It was a let down.

I wish my mom had offered to bake me a cake when I came out to her, instead she said "because of my beliefs, we can't be roommates anymore" and kicked me out of the house. Didn't ask if I had anywhere to stay, just to get out and never come back. I went from being her precious baby girl to a "roommate" that was no longer welcome, just by telling her that I liked girls. I would have LOVED to have a cake instead. When your parents reject you, that's a whole different level of emotional pain, especially over something I have no control over.
