I'm back again - hope everyone is keeping well! Had a lot of fun with this song, one of my favorites. I've been working on accent patterns the last few weeks and enjoyed coming up with a couple of my own fills in this cover :D

I just stopped by to check up from the last video I commented on which I think was 10 months into the first year? It was about 2 months ago, but now you are a TIME KEEPER!!! I don't know if you are playing with a click or anything, but there is no rushing or dragging that I can hear other than that middle little flub, but that's it. You'd get the gig if this was a demo lmao!! Keep up the great work!!!
@drumgirl9 ай бұрын
Aww, thank you so much, that means the world to me!!! I’ve been working on timing a lot since I have ongoing trouble with rushing, so I’m glad to hear you noticed improvement! No click track here, just used Moises to reduce the volume of the original drum track by about 80-90%. Btw, I’ll finish two years on drums in October :)
@alderoth019 ай бұрын
@drumgirl that is insane in my mind lmao!! I played drums in Junior high and high school. I did the trap set for jazz band, played Quads for marching, and did auxiliary percussion mainly during orchestra and it took me 2 freaking years just to STAY in time lmao!! You were as spot on as could be. As far as I could tell it was just that one little flub you did that had any time difference. I am shocked 😲. Thats what happens when you are passionate about something. You excell quickly. Keep it up!! You'll be a studio drummer in no time!!

Cool cover and well done! A few tunes I think you might enjoy drumming (based on others you've played)..maybe not all to your tastes, but I bet one or two would stand out! Nada Surf - Killian's Red Death Cab - Title Track John Vanderslice - White Plains Rogue Wave - Ghost/Chicago x12 The Decemberists - Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect Built to Spill - Living Zoo/Carry the Zero Spoon - Everything Hits at Once Band of Horses - The Funeral Guster - Dear Valentine Pinegrove - Moment The Shins - Girl Sailor Pavement - Spit on a Stranger/Unfair Deep Sea Diver - Wishing/Switchblade

Hi! THANK YOU for these recommendations!! I haven’t heard of most of these bands or any of these songs. So far I’m really liking Deep Sea Diver. I will continue listening and maybe have one of these up on my channel in the future 😊
@elsporko3217 ай бұрын
@@drumgirlNo problem! Deep Sea Diver is awesome, and their most recent album "Impossible Weight" is really, really good...Jessica Dobson is a beast, and so is the drummer (her husband) who always plays really interesting, almost melodic drum parts.

@drumgirl6 ай бұрын
Hihi!!! I am so excited for you!! You will definitely exceed all your expectations with consistency and practice - that would be my #1 tip for you. I started learning at nearly twice your age and it took me about 2 years to get to this point in my playing. Just think where you'll be by the time you're in your 30s like me :) I have thought about doing tutorials, I just haven't quite worked up the courage to actually record one 😅 I'm glad to hear that's something you'd like to see though!

Just watched a few of your videos. Such a great journey, you're smashing it. I'm 37 and teetering on the edge of taking up the drums which has been a life long dream. I guess I just want to see if I even slightly have the capability to learn or if I will completely suck! I presume taking lessons by themselves is pointless if you don't have a kit to practice on at home? Did you just buy one or explore rentals to see how you got on?
@drumgirl8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m glad you like my channel and hope it’s some proof that it’s never too late to start. I think I would have found it very difficult to practice with any consistency without a kit at home. I did a lot of research on different options and eventually bought an older used e-kit on Craigslist to start. It had a lot of issues that I didn’t like so I swapped it out for a better kit within a few weeks. If I were you I would reach out to a local drum shop to see if they have recommendations based on your budget and volume requirements.

How do you learn the parts of the song? Do you transcribe the songs?
@drumgirl9 ай бұрын
Hi there! I usually learn most songs by ear and transcribe them section by section into Groovescribe. If I can't figure out the song on my own I'll try to find sheet music online.
@patrikknoerr97779 ай бұрын
Where do you get your sheets? I don't suppose you are dissecting the song by ear? I try to play along a song trying to dig up what is going on, and mostly I fail :(
@drumgirl9 ай бұрын
Hey Patrik! I rarely use sheet music these days. I learned this one by ear. I used to use sheet music a lot but my teacher discouraged me from doing that early on. It makes it easier to be present while playing & will also allow you to learn more music without relying on finding sheet music.
@patrikknoerr97778 ай бұрын
Thx. I noticed that after the 100th time you play a song, you discover more and more of the stuff that's going on. I think that doesn't hurt. Maybe it is good to read and write drum notes or box notation used for drum patterns, but when it comes to playing a song most of the sheets are not exact representations anyway. I'll probably start dissecting some songs in my Cubase by using the drum editor along with the WAV to get a better understanding. Fun Fact: I used to program a drum machine in the late 80s as a kid and had several years of experience editing drum tracks in my music studio, as well as some finger drumming on the keys. Using an Atari ST with Cubase 3 with my drum romplers did a lot of good to me back then. But playing an actual eDrum is a totally different cup of tea. @@drumgirl
