A great way to improve one of my favourite old Hornby engines. A friend of mine painted the recesses black and it looked even better when the Wills glazing was added.

Good tip. Always new life to be got out of an old model - and needn’t be expensive.

that looks great, ive used glue and glaze to make a full window and it does work well

I must try that.

Glue n glaze is some of my favorite stuff. Another product I use when attaching glazing or etched plates is Vallejo Satin acrylic varnish. It dries clear and matches the satin finish on most locos. It’s easy to clean up with a bit of water based acrylic thinners or water.

Interesting. I've got some of that, so I'll give it a go.

If a window aperture needs enlarging for Flushglaze I prefer to use a jewellers file over a scalpel. The latter risks cutting out too much too quickly. I use the scalpel only to cut out the filed waste around the window. Also I'd like to see a close up of the window edges filled in by Glue N'Glaze once dried to convince me that it works. It must leave a border between the plastic window and the window frame edge. Either way like you I use this product to improve old locos and coaches. A great model railway product.

Needle file is a call. Some of the thumbnails (2/3 in my test) have better close-ups of the front windows, but I’ll share some on Twitter too (link in bio). There is still a perceptible edge with the glue ‘n’ glaze, but much better than the gap left around just the Flushglaze on its own.

I'm looking at flushglazing my old Lima coaches. Done some Lima Class 33's, makes a huge difference

@@hillsidejunctionrailway I’ve only done locos so far. Coaches sounds interesting!

Great attention to detail. Hope eye op went well for you.

Thank you. Yes, results from eye op all very good!

Personally I don’t like it. I get what it’s supposed to do but I think the vac form is very poor. Nothing against your work and attention to detail but I think the product is poor.
@paterpracticus2 ай бұрын
Not to everyone’s taste. The vacuum formed windows are looking a bit dated now, but I think better than the old factory fitted units.

using the scalpel has left a dent in the window frame
@paterpracticus2 ай бұрын
Yes, I saw that too in the edit. Doesn’t actually show much IRL. Next time I’ll use something to protect the frame.
