I have a T@G. I have a privacy tent with both a cassette toilet and a luggable loo. The cassette is for #1 and the loo for #2. Emptying a cassette with just liquid is a breeze and without any real smell. We use biodegradable bags for our loo and it's easy to find a dumpster.

Other that the overall "icky" part of what is a natural human function, I'm really glad you posted this... however, the most common mistake all campers make when managing sewage was repeated here. There's a really high desire to avoid any "splashes" at every step of the black tank dumping process so when people are adding water to rinse the cassette tank or the drain hose they often put the water hose far inside the drain pipe/hose thus contaminating the water hose! This is even worse when they use their white (camper supply) hose as the rinse hose. In all my years of camping, (ya... it's a lot) I've only seen a few people take the time to also rinse down the water supply hose supplied at the dump stations. Everything that gets inserted into a sewage line/tank, no matter how far, must be treated as contaminated. Love the video. Hope this comment is taken in the manner it is meant... to help, not to criticize.

You seem the down to earth person to ask this. We haven’t bought our Tab yet, my concern is the bathroom. I will be needing to use the toilet regularly as I have a medical condition. How is the bestway to keep the smell to minimum and get everything flushed down, use things like poo pouri regularly and it helps. Is there a way to add water before “going” so I can add it? Sorry if this is embarrassing for me but I need to know before buying
@JennGroverPhotography
@JennGroverPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Yoy would add it to the cassette, as there is a seal between the cassette and the toilet that you will want to have open. There are numerous tank treatments available. I have used both Happy Camper (organic) and Valterra Pure Power Blue. I like the smell of the Valterra product. I think you will be best to empty the tank, often. You can always buy a spare cassette if you camp where there is no where to dump, too.

Just emptied mine out for the first time here at my house. I did get a bit of splash around the entrance. If I’m faster next time I can avoid that. Also, pressing the pressure button avoids the splashing and empties faster. I was curious and opened the main opening first. Shouldn’t have done that. Live and learn. The blue powder stuff I had put in there prior helped it all not be so smelly and gross.

If the temps are high it can build up pressure inside the tank and that can give you a bit of splash back when first relieving the pressure.

I love that Americans are raving about cassette toilets. They're bloody awful! Go to any caravan park or site in the UK and you invariably see the hubby/Dad trudging glumly to the elsen point dragging "The Briefcase Of Shame" behind them. 😂 I'm loving the black water tank that you can empty at a distance. 😂👍
@JennGroverPhotography
@JennGroverPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Why are they dragging them? Why not just pull up to the dump station and pull the cassette there? Do campgrounds in the UK not have dump stations or full hook up sites? I have never had to lug mine through the campground.
@jez6208
@jez6208 4 жыл бұрын
@@JennGroverPhotography well, they usually come with pull out handles. Little wheels at the other end. It's usually Dad that has to drag it to the dump. We have this blue stuff called Elsen that you have to have in the cassette. It's nasty but apparently it helps break all the nasty down. You can't dump it in a toilet or a drain so most caravan sites have an Elsen point. Usually a bloody big barrell that you pour it into. It usually spills and the tanks are rank. Tbh mate if I was camping off the grid, I'd do what we did in the army. Dig a bloody deep hole and get on with it. Alot of campsites here have toilets too! Failing that, the motorway services or the local pub. 😂 I camp alot in my little caravan but luckily for me I re enact battles from the English Civil Wars and we have portaloos supplied at events. Mate, they can be God awful too but it's character building and some bugger else problem. 👍👍😂😂

You know most people think cassette toilets help them avoid using the dreaded sewer hose at the dump station on the way out of camp at the end of their stay (or every 6 days , like my rig). However they haven't thought about the fact that they have to dump the cassette every 1 or 2 days! To my mind, the only advantage to putting up with the detachable cassette is to keep your trailer in your campsite to "save" it. But if you are in a state, national or COE park, you have reserved your space anyway. If you are boondocking, well, guess what...?
@JennGroverPhotography
@JennGroverPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Having had both, I find the cassette gives me more flexibility. For example,, I can dump my cassette in a pit toilet at a campground that doesn't have a dump station. Also, by going with a cassette toilet, they were able to more capacity to the freshwater and greywater tanks (from 12 to 18 gallons.) I don't miss having a black tank.

Great video, well delivered and to the point. My wife and I really like the idea of the cassette toilet but understand anything "new" (common place in Europe) will give cause for questions and perhaps concerns for a few. One QUESTION from me: I assume the grey tank also needs to be dumped at an approved dump station, so if you are already there and connected for grey, aren't the benefits of not having to find a dump station somewhat diminished?

The cassette allows for a larger gret tank so you could get away with not emptying as frequently. Also, you can really tell you are getting the cassette toilet clean and with the abikuty to hose it out, directly it is a lot easier to do so.

Thanks for this info. I was excited about finding the T@B but went to a hard "no" when I saw that toilet tank setup. Yuk. Earlier this week at a campground, a lady walked into the women's bathroom with an orange bucket of poo and dumped it into the commode, unnerving my girlfriend, who related her trauma to me. I thought cassette toilets were similar. Glad I researched a bit more. It's not necessarily a deal breaker anymore. Also, I had previously ruled out having a van cassette in my Jeep to use in a pinch with my poptop roof tent at night. Now I'm less afraid to look into it a bit more. Beiing of a certain age has it's advantages, but bladder control is not one of them.

Not related, except for things ‘carried’ :). Would love for you to address systems of packing your tow vehicle with all the stuff that doesn’t fit in your camper (such as you mentioned in this vid a second cassette for the toilet), but needed for your camping, traveling and care of the rv. Everything from food, tools, clothing, gear, outdoor chairs/lantern/firewood, etc.that has to be accessibly packed in the vehicle. So, best for me is to pack it the same every time. That way, I get used to where it is, therefore where it goes back... to be able to find it again without a 10 minute or more hunt. :). Please address. I’m gleaning much from your instruction! Thank you!

I am a bit of a minimalist. I don't bring firewood (should be picked up locally to avoid transporting Bore Ash Beetle) or full sized lanterns, I use a Goal Zero mini crush lanterns. Also, I wouldn't bring a second cassette on a weekend trip, just when I plan to do longer term dry camping. Clothes and food are always in the T@b, except extra bottled water or soda, which is on the backseat floorboard. Tools, the Blackstone griddle and accessories, solar, chairs, rug, and sunshade all go in the cargo area of the TV.

Sorry if this was already asked. Did you have the exterior of your t@b done after market? Very cute.
