This is the closest saltwater fishing near Orlando, Kissimmee, Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach, Leesburg, Palm Bay and Disney.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
Here is a very simple video to show you how to flush your Yamaha outboard after using it in saltwater or a sandy condition. This should be done every time you use your boat in a saltwater environment. You can use this on Honda, Suzuki, Mercury and Evinrude outboards as well.
First off let me say thank you for watching my videos.
If you feel that this video or any of my videos has helped you then please feel free to donate what you see fit and please do not feel obligated to do this. It is greatly appreciated and goes to further more help producing more of these. I am not a "for hire" marine mechanic and I do not make a living at working on boats, tackle or marine engines. I am a charter fishing guide and small business owner who chooses to work on things myself in my line of work and in return try to share some of the things I have learned, with you the viewer. I do these tutorials to help you, the viewer, save some money and time (it has saved me a ton of both) by doing the work yourself. However making these video tutorials takes a massive amount of time (instead of just doing the work without recording it and then uploading them), post editing, research and time away from my job as a fishing guide, which I do full time. I want to say thank you very much and again thanks for watching.
A typical marine mechanic usually makes between $70 and $95 an hour. Plus the time it takes for them to have the engine/boat in their possession to even get to the work. Think of the money and time you can save by doing some things yourself. It adds up fast over the years.
I also want to stress very clearly that I have nothing against them, at some point in time I too need their expertise and services. I appreciate the depth and knowledge they have. However just like the "big" home improvement stores and "do it your self'" places that are not going after the handymen and builders, we all like to expand our knowledge and have a sense of accomplishment. So please do not take any offense to these videos.

The static flush attachment is made to run with the engine off. If you connect both static flush and water pump and run at the sametime the water is going to slash instead of flowing through proper as it should.

I wouldn't do both at same time because then you can't tell if it would pee with just the muffs. The direct connect at the top doesn't cool the engine.

You can always use a "Y" splitter from one faucet too. I am just a big fan of doing both the upper and lower ports at the same time. Headphones and the flush port by the cowling. But you should be fine.

Reading the comments I see everyone has there own ideas, the important thing is to flush. I hardly ever use the top flush, and I assume its there so you don't have to run the donk, to flush using the muffs, obviously you run the donk, that's how I see it. Cheers for the up load.

Hi if I have the engine in the upright position so the leg is out of the sea can I use the top flush method without running the engine in the upright position. I ask because my boat is kept on a pontoon and I am worried that flushing while the engine is lifted may cause a problem.
@Cavanaugh68
@Cavanaugh68 9 жыл бұрын
BELATU CADROS You can run the top hose only at any time. Just never turn the engine on with this option. The foot must have a hose on it to run it, not just the top.

According to my Yamaha owners manual, it says NEVER run the motor while using the top flush port as it may damage the water pump.
@Cavanaugh68
@Cavanaugh68 10 жыл бұрын
P Borrello OKAY LISTEN! Last time I will post this info on flushing: Yes, you are not to use ONLY - I REPEAT ONLY!!! The top flush port and RUN the engine. However if you hook up the top(flush port) AND THE BOTTOM (Headphones with a hose running) ports and THEN AND ONLY THEN RUN IT YOU WILL BE FINE. If you do not believe this then please by all means call YOUR Yamaha Dealer and ask them if this is true. I know it is because one: I have been running and flushing my engine like this for YEARS without an issue and two: I asked my local Yamaha dealer years ago before I tried. The manual just says do not use the top port only-it does not say anything about both, so I found out on my on, by asking. As long as the headphones are on and running you can do both. Thank You.

If you run the motor whilst doing top and bottom it won't hurt your motor, but is absolutely counter productive when addidng salt terminator, as the water is being pushed down the main water tube in leg via top flush method, therefore the water running from lower leg WILL NOT reach the top! For further note the top flush is by far the best method of flushing, as the water travels either side of thermostat. Maybe consult a professional before handing out advise to the public
@szinski
@szinski 5 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing... running two flushes at once (upper/lower) means water from the lower unit will not reach the power head because of the high pressure water flow from the upper flush. The Yamaha manual clearly states that the proper way to flush the engine is to use the upper flush method. You're wasting time and money (for the Salt Terminator) doing that way. If you want the Salt Terminator to reach the power head, then reconnect the upper fitting and use only the muffs.

Hook up the hose and then turn on the water, duh.It isn't necessary to run the engine on the muffs to flush it no matter how long you've been doing it. Running the engine on muffs is how they used to do it before the flushing hose was incorporated.

Why would you do the top flush if your doing the bottom ear muff flush as the bottom does both. When you flush from the bottom with the engine on it is flushing the entire engine- just as if the engine was in the water. Putting the hose on the top port too is doing nothing

Nice Video. Can I ad that many guys come back to harbor super fast with engine GLOWING hot and they top flush the hot engine without it running. If you do this, it can cause internal cracking on the block and exhaust cooling water jackets in the engine. Regardless of what engine make, when the motors are SUPER HOT turning the hose on FULL pressure is introducing cold water into a super hot engine that is NOT running could cause major damage..... Some guys will say " I always do it" etc etc.. what ever. When and if it does crack it will be MAJOR repair. Run muffs/headphones or let the motors cool before using the non running top flush. If this info saves ONE guy thousands of dollars its worth sharing. My repair shop said they are having lots of Yamaha and Suzukis with cracked blocks around the exhaust manifold and cant figure out why. Hauling buns back to harbor motors GLOWING HOT and full hose water pressure cold flushing them without the engine running.That is why. Let them cool or ear muff flush them with engine running.. Nice Video.

+DolphinDog Outboard motors glowing hot? It's water cooled so there's no way your outboard is ever glowing hot unless you have something majorly wrong. I don't know what you mean about spraying down a hot air cooled engine. I would follow the manufacture recommendations.

I put my 120-quart ice chest under the motor I raise it just high enough that it prop is toucing the bottom of the ice chest I do NOT put in F or R only N Fill ice chest to top Connect hose to quick flush hose port No ear muffs as motor is submerged in water a few inches about the water pickup screen on the lower unit Add flush if needed Salt Away vinegar bleach Now start motor Water circulates instead of going in and out straight on the ground whihch is a BIG WASTE of expensive chemicals The water and flush chemicals go around and around The water in the ice chest gradually warms up because it is being recycled Some water will splash on the ground You can top off the water as you run motor using the hose connected to the port at the base of the powerhead Don't overfill After about 39 or 45 minutes waster will get very warm and over-temp alarm will sound SHUT OFF motor immediately Drain water from ice chest Fill ice chest with clean water and run again for 5 min to flush out the chemicals

Just a word of advice...Do not turn your motor if you are connected to the flush on the top...Do not do this...I noticed this man was doing this while he was using his motor muffs...It is a big no no. contact your Yamaha dealer and he will tell you not to do this...He is right that you want to flush with ear muffs but you want to reconnect the hose at the top and just use the ear muffs. Beside that, it was a good video.
@Cavanaugh68
@Cavanaugh68 10 жыл бұрын
You are incorrect. You do not want to run the motor only using the top flush port, due to it does not go through the thermostat, and could overheat. However if you hook TWO hoses up, one on the foot(head phones) and the one on the flush port than you can run the engine, as done on the tutorial here. This is what I am doing in this video and at 45 seconds in you can see where I tell you to use both ports. I have been doing this for thousands of hours of flush and Yamaha knows( I have been in touch with them, I am a professional guide and have contacts with them) I do this and they have confirmed using both is fine to flush and RUN the outboard.
