Either, he means the only way to end the cycle (the repetition of bad things) is to listen to "smells like teen spirt" or he's talking about nirvana's definition in Buddhism, which is a state in which there is neither suffering, desire, nor sense of self, and the subject is released from the effects of karma and the cycle of death and rebirth. This is the final goal of Buddhism. I don't really believe in this karma stuff but I can tell you that life is better when you dedicate your life to the morals and ethics listed in the bible and to repent for the sins we have committed. You didn't really ask for this but a lot of people wonder why god lets bad things happen to good people, my answer to that is he doesn't. Dedicating your life to god doesn't mean that bad things will cease to happen, god helps a person overcome that bad thing. I know that's a lot I'm sorry for that and I hope you learned something.
