Edward Almeida was an American flute maker, who trained under Verne Q Powell before going on to run the company. In the early 70s he started producing flutes under his own name, with the aim to reproduce the sound and feel of the early Powells. His flutes remain highly sought after.
This video is a superb example of an Edward Almeida flute. It formerly belonged to Emer McDonough, Principal Flute of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia, and has been played around the world in some of finest concert halls in both the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras. The combination of this flute with with a Brannen headjoint gives an open sound, with echoes of the early French flutes.
In this video, flute consultant Hannah Clark demonstrates this superb instrument.
