My colleague in an amateur flute ensemble bought an "intermediate flute" at a nearby shop for $2500. My intermediate Miyazawa 102 was $4500. I'm wondering what I spent the extra $2000 for? We are both intermediate players.

Miyazawa flutes are all handmade by expert flutemakers, from the 102 all the way up to the 24k and platinum flutes; it's this craftsmanship that makes them more expensive (the least expensive flutes from Sankyo and Muramatsu and Altus are also more expensive than many other silverplated flutes, because they're also handmade). :)
