No.8 was the 1st Allan Pettersson symphony to bowl me over. Hypnotise me into terminal gloom, with its reassuring sunset twinkling. This No.7 is far more active & eventful, with exquisite moments of deep joy. If the World can accept Mahler into the pantheon of Great Composers then surely Pettersson can eventually win over greater support. Alan Hovhaness admired Allan Pettersson's music, I can't recall Hovhaness ever mentioning Mahler. Thank you Christian Lindberg.

The "Adagietto" section starting 26:23 could also work as an independently played concert piece for strings, similar to the one in Mahler´s 5th.

Pettersson.

Immense suffering and infinite beauty in the same piece. Some time this must be performed inside the Tsitsernakaberd monument in Yerevan, Armenia, on April 24th.

Lovely to discover this performance by chance on KZbin. I've been a huge fan of Pettersson's music since I first encountered it in the 1980s, but I now realise it's been too long since I actually sat and listened to any!

Vielen Dank.

Amazing! Just amazing! Thank you so much! Without knowing Pettersson, I sense something of deep meaning must have created some deeply dramatic in Pettersson´s soul... Wow on what musics is able to express... Kind regards from Germany!

That's a captivating account of this work. The work should be as well-known as some of Shostakovich's.

This is less of a depressing symphony than the 8th. Still has that dark gloomy feel, though not to the extent of the 8th.

Schade!

Great symphony, so bad I haven't heard of this until two months ago. But to be honest, it feels like a bit lengthy to me...

The horn player sitting next to the bass clarinet doesn't seem to like Pettersson much...

The conductor did a great job, but he should have changed out of his pajamas before coming to the concert.
