I learned to play the flute in the 6th grade (1981). Kept going into high school and marched in the band, so much fun. After i graduated, I played some but it eventually ended up in a closet. I moved it with me throughout the years until 5 years ago when a house I lived in developed water damage from a leak and the worst was in a closet that my flute was stored in. As we were moving out, I didn't even bother taking it with because I figured the water had ruined it. Last year I bought a new flute but because it's been so long since I played regularly, I feel like a beginner and relearning how to play. I remember when I was learning how to play all those years ago, my dad tried to get me to change to the clarinet but I insisted on learning flute. Then I found out in high school that it's one of the hardest instruments to learn. The toughest for me back then and now is getting a good sound out the instrument.

I came across this by accident I am an intermediate player. When I first learnt I could still stand up I now can’t and have to sing and play sitting down and I can still do it. Some people do not have the choice of standing up (I’m disabled) if anyone else is please don’t let it put you off you can train your diaphragm accordingly! Other than that awesome video.

I appreciate your tips and advice, however I'm not physically able to stand for long periods of time. Sitting is the only way I can play the flute. Does this mean I can't play the flute?
@YvieMcStevie2 жыл бұрын
Obviously it doesn’t mean that. Stand until you can’t or don’t stand at all. Just make sure you’re sitting up right - the point is to ensure your diaphragm is able to open completely. Breathing control is a crucial element of playing an instrument such as a flute.
