This was Tarja's last concert with Nightwish.Backstage she got the open letter in which she was fired.

@@Wolf-ln1ml It's common knowledge. They posted the letter on the their website that night after the concert. In it tuomas attacks the character of both her and her husband, and makes a big deal about her husbands "cultural differences" because he's hispanic. Google it and read it yourself. Also they had a trashy book in the works written by the bands PR writer that slandered her and her husband as well. And they released it shortly after firing her. Then the wrote nasty vindictive songs about them which they released on their next album Dark drama play. Obviously, it was all a big drama play done at her expense.

Where you noted that the song intensified is that in the story about the "Trail of Tears" the cavalry enters the scene and there the balance of power shifts from the native americans to the settlers. The only difference from OG Nightwish is the bassist (Marko here). There are two sad stories behind this song. The first is the genuine tragedy of how the indigenous peoples of America were treated by Europeans (the song is based on a family saga novel covering a century of colonisation). Tuomas did his very best to be sensitive to their story by reaching out to someone from that background, to get the details right. He asked John Two-Hawks to translate the poem you hear, basically trying not to engage in cultural appropriation but be respectful and supportive. Unfortunately, it has since come out that John Two-Hawks is most likely a fraud. His translation is kind of like Google Translate: word-for-word fine, but not using actual Lakota grammar like a native speaker would. So the very thing Tuomas was trying hard to avoid has happened through no fault of his own. I still enjoy the song, but I admit it is slightly tainted by this!

I don't know if you should call him a fraud. He is not 100% native heritage, but some. And he is not native lakota language speaker, but speaks some. Of course I understand, that some people are very sensitive about this kinds of issues. But I don't think it makes the song any less beautiful. Name of the song comes from Dee Brown's book Creek Mary's Blood. It is about white people taking over the lands of native american people. Anyway, that poem in the end is originally written by Tuomas in english, and John Two-Hawks then translated it to lakota. @@Anttik_ I heard other people say what you just said. Tuomas wanted help so he hired someone who wasn’t pure. I mean, were there any around he could have flown out on short notice? So he couldn’t speak the language perfectly. He had Native American heritage and he did the best he could. He was reverent and conveyed the meaning and tone of the song. I’m not going to tell people how to feel, but maybe they could not ruin it for the rest of us

"Soon I will be here no more." If she only knew how true that was. She was fired after this concert. Lot of drama from both sides for a long time led up to it. There was talks about her being too big for the band now and wanting to do her on thing so she was probably leaving anyways.

One of my least favorite Nightwish songs, even though I still like it. Haha. Tarja is terrific, as is the rest of the band. Emppu's solo is really good, and whether John Two-Hawks is authentic 'enough' or not...his solo, and his singing, is quite good. When I listen to the CD I always skip to the next song after the main musical portion is done. Very good reaction , Heline.
