I would read everything in a manual before using it.. he doesn't cover some really critical things in regard to what to be careful with especially during maintenance. AFTER you read through the manual even if its just the warnings and maintenance, then watch these sort of videos. Just my opinion :)

My mom had her tank running for about 6 months while the media and charcoal were both still in their plastic bags. The gravel, decorations, and filter sponges were the only thing keeping the tank going.

To anyone who reads this, please make sure the gasket is in the correct spot! You saved me from a lot of flooding! I couldn't figured out why it was spraying water everywhere and kept checking the directions to no avail. Turns out the gasket was in the wrong spot because it fit so well where the little clip-looking things are. Turns out it fits in more than one spot and one of the spots will empty your tank onto your floor within minutes.

I unfortunately read this after I had the flooding. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I couldn’t understand why it was pouring water out of both sides of the filter…. It was the gasket put in the wrong spot, they really should be marked in red because it really looks like it belongs in the top of the lid. The flood is cleaned up and the filter is now running and doesn’t appear to be leaking. I will continue to check on it for the rest of the day because I’m very paranoid.

Great vid! Personally I like to build my own filter/pump setups as the premium brand stuff is too expensive, sure my buildings are nowhere near as elegant but functionally wise far superior. For example my filter is 40litre chock-full of media, to the brim! Has a variable speed jeabo pump and proper pond tubing (the big stuff) all for about £120 for my 300ltr tank. The pump and media came from the ebay all the other bits from B&Q and Maidenhead aquatics. Far less elegant and less safe, so there's that.

This video was absolutely amazing! I was terrified of the 07 series because it was a learning curve for me. I watched this and immediately went to grab one! I have the 407 and it is exactly the same, except there are 4 inner baskets. I never once picked up up instruction manual through the whole setup; I just followed along with the video. @@nataliezensmith8808 Super late, but someone else might need it: The first starting from the bottom up was foam inserts, then ceramics, then carbon baggies, then the final one was carbon baggies and a foam insert top that's supposed to remove phosphate.

Ohhh that little rubber thingy instructions in the manual did NOT look right. The manual to me looks like it goes in the other groove, which didn’t create a seal which caused a LOT of water to go all over my 3rd story apartment floor… :(

All carbon does is remove tannins, medication, discoloration, any smells or similar types of things from the water. It also needs replacing regularly like every month or so which is an added cost. Other than removing meds when needed carbon is only really used as a water clarifying chemical. I don't mind a bit of discolouration in my tanks and saving a bit of money.

I bought the 207 3 weeks ago and still blowing out air bubbles, I've give it a little shake to try and rid the air pockets in the media but still happening atleast 3 time an hour.... any advice. Thanks glenn

There must be air getting into it somewhere. Do you have an air pump or something creating bubbles which it's sucking up? Otherwise there's an air leak somewhere

I sure wish they’d change the design of the snap-on clips that go over the tubing. It’s very easy to brake, they don’t hold well with any kind of tape, and they’re expensive to replace.

I like this one, straight on point. Fluval has this thing that makes understanding the instruction manual harder, than just figuring out the filter. :) Perhaps the easiest to use canisters out there - you can't put anything together the wrong way. Even if you get a ''brain holiday'' and leave the ceramics and charcoal in the bags, there is enough sponge volume to keep most tanks going :)

This system is the biggest piece of shit and pain in the ass on the market. They made the plastic for the tubes so thick and hard to bend and the clips for the side of the tank are so fucking flimsy that it’s embarrassing. Waste of money time and effort. Fuck fluval

Four questions: 1. What if the oil on the gasket dries up? Do I need add more oil onto the gasket??? 2. Can the open nozzle be completely immersed in water to reduce noise? Or must it be above water level??? 3. Does the cannister have to be cleaned weekly such as wiping internally with a sponge??? 4. How often does biomedia or sponges need to be changed???

I have had two 407 filter's and both have broken after in a couple of or even with my most reason one a couple of weeks these a supposed to be high quality filter's but I'm really not seeing this with my experience my fluval u4 has lasted a lot Longer than my 407.

I appreciate the info here, but you need to slow down on some of this stuff. You say the filter is “basically dead” until we add something that Fluval decided not to include in their pricey package. You also just breeze by the part re: arrangement of filter media, which seems to be might crucial. I’ve been messing with these for a while now and just caught that part about needing to bring my filter to life like some sorta fishy frankenstein. I digress.

So I just bought this filter for my turtle and my pumpkin seed fish. The fish is similar to a blue gill but much prettier. Lol I have raised him from egg to fry, to a year old teenager,lol. They need current, they need to work a bit and I need a filler and half on their tank. This is now the new main filter. I had a tetra internal 40 gallon, then a tetra 10-20 HOB, they have a air stone, and sponge filler rated for 40-60 gal. The sponge filter will stay. I am removing the air stone, and the other 2 filters

107 installed, no instructions needed. I was a bit uncertain to have the tubes at one end of the tank prior to watching this but not now, not today my friend 😍 running beautifully. I have it working with a Fluval U2 internal filter until the filters and sponges build up their biological stuff. How long do you think it will be before I can take out the U2.

January 28, 2023 - just setup this new canister up (Saturday). Getting it setup was no issue. I primed it and then turned it on. It still had a lot of air in the line, so that took so many minutes to clear up - you know so it was a continuous stream of water without that (hey there is air in the system/line) noise. So I assume that will clear up after various amount of time. Hopefully.

I have a 107, just got it today..ive washed everything in tap water, set it all up. When it comes to the pumping like mad part nothing is happening..ive been at this for hours

I followed all the directions but it isn't operating correctly. I moved the priming handle up and down, but it won't siphon and instead started leaking out the sides. What did I do wrong?
