Fluval 07 Filter STARTING and PRIMING How To | 107 207 307 407
In this video we take a look at how to start and prime the Fluval 07 range of external canister filter. This guide covers all of the range of Fluval canister filters from 107 - 407.
There are two main times the filter will need to be primed. the first being on a brand new filter and the second is when the filter has already been setup but removed for cleaning etc. I cover both of these examples and show you how to get your Fluval 07 filter going again

M y 407 was giving me fits Trying to start it for the 1st time! After following all the Steps ( I Thought!) Several Times Did I Finally Find Your Video and Bam 1st Try! I was wondering if once it’s running, if it’s ok for the output to be below water level, or if it should only be level or slightly above? I have a 29 gallon and also run an air stone for surface agitation to make sure there’s enough oxygen.

Informative video. The instructions said to fill the filter before starting, so I filled in AND THEN out the top on. Oops, emptied it and started over. I tried both methods you lay out and there is no bubbling. The filter does not fill one bit, either priming it or not, summering out outlet or not. I have the gray lever down. Everything looks good from your video or the instructions. But nothing🤫

Great video, I've a 206 and never had a problem priming it. Maybe it's because I cover everything in silicone grease (Including the primer shaft and plunger). What I do have a problem with is the noise!

My 406's are quiet. The 405's are not much different. Air pumps now that's a different thing. With 7 tanks it's like living in a bee hive!

I think it depends on the location. Mine was (I've now changed to an internal filter) in my bedroom and sounded loud at night. I managed to reduce the noise by sitting it on a mouse pad and cut off bits of the pad to put anywhere the pipes touched the cabnet. It's a great filter but I would only recomand internal filters for a bedroom tank.

Really informative video.. I over estimated my 307 a few days ago when I first set it up... From owning other types of less quality types of filters, I've since then - come to understand that the only way to get the filter to work properly was to pre-fill the canister with water before plugging it in to the power source. The reason being - according to the instruction manual - the motor would burn out. With Fluval, this changes everything! NTL, ANYONE who has just purchased the "Rolls Royce" of canister filters, YOU NEED to pay FULL SIZE ATTENTION to this video!

We have a 407 not more than a year old on a turtle tank , problem with the primer seized , have spoken to the manufacturer who suggest a new primer kit , which we have but on removing the old primer a piece of what looks like a black rubber seal has come out and the new handle is sloppy in the insert , is this filter pump suitable for use with a turtle tank and how can I get the o ring or seal that must be broken .... has not gone well since we bought it

Try carefully tilting the filter a bit to get some air trapped in it to come out or just leave it running it should clear up

U fortunately mine overflowed with water on the floor with the simple priming and then wouldn't work after plugging in and input and output flow correct. My 7nderstanding is top 9only goes on one day. Wasted my entire Saturday trying to get it to work but ended up mopping floor instead. Returned.

If it's hard to prime try putting a smear of food grade silicone grease on the primer shaft and on the plunger/plunger cylinder. That can help make a better seel.

I have multiple Fluval x07 filters. What I have found is that after the filter starts correctly, there could be air in the media that build up at the pump impeller. The flow will stop. Pumping the primer will get it going again. Also, tipping the canister front/back/side to side will allow any air remaining to vent. I always make sure there is no air left after startup or cleaning before calling the job done. Normally, I need to repeat the restart at least 3 times. I love the x07 canisters but, air lock of the pump can stop the flow. Also, some people put an air stone right near the intake. That's a bad idea. The air WILL get into the canister and it could stop the flow. Regards.......

05's pain in the whatsit. 06's no problems for me. I do it slightly different by just pulling up the plunger while it fills. Start pump and push down lever. Pushes out last bubble. My cannister is much lower though. OK filters but getting dated compared with newer designs

Depending on how many fish and how much food you put in you should find a balance. At end of week check filter if there too much feed a bit less

Sounds like you might have your In and Out hoses mixed up. If you put the hose from the intake on the OUT nozzle on the can it will do that. Don't run it like that though it will burn out the impeller. It's and easy thing to mix up I did it w my first can.

Yes, according to the fluval website they say you can move the Grey shut off lever about 45 degrees to reduce flow a max of 50%

The head off the 107 and 207 can be switched but the 107 head has a lower flow and the 107 I think has a smaller impeller cover.

@@teresalove2823 hey Teresa! Yes I did :) you have a grey handle between IN and OUT ,just pull it down or up , or in the middle to increase the flow of water :) works perfect for me now :)

@Jellybean 2 things. Make sure the rubber o-ring gasket is in place on the power head or it's flood time. And make sure the hose assembly is pushed all the way into the power head and the red locking handle is all the way down.
