Here is the Fluval Flora. Although I'm not using every part of the kit I'm excited to use it for my latest project. Come back and watch the aquascape next week!

Hi! Sort of new to subscribing.i have been a silent stalker for a year, but I thought the right thing to do finally was to subscribe to you. You are the "Gearhead," guy in this hobby and I appreciate that! It doesn't take long before a person suddenly has a bunch of extra equipment! I started back in the sixties then in '78 I took a forty year break! Now there is so much equipment around it boggles the mind but it is great to have so many options and people such as yourself to help figure out what a person needs for the first bit. We have the same taste in table lights as well! I have been trying to grow plants with no CO2 and so far it is working out. Slower but less stuff! I'm really enjoying this video, making me think again! With that textured background, I think some fish would be suited to a clean, or patterned ceramic or glass tile back wall. I may try it on a 15 tall just to see with wild Bettas. I have the same Turtle lamp! Nice fixture. Anyway I enjoy your style of video as well as your subject matter as well!

one thing, you might want to put something other than water in your bubblecounter. Water evaporates so after some time it would need a refill. Many uses some sort of oil because it will take longer time for it to evaporate. I'm not sure what kind of oil is best to use or what most use, but if you wanna be on the safe side theres also bubble counter fluid to buy in aquarium shops, thats harmless and won't evaporate.

One video i would love to see from you, that i believe you dont have pecktec, is what kind of plant maintenence do you usually apply. From my understanding you dont use co2 in most of your tanks, still you have plants like monte carlo wich is marked as "need co2 to live", wherever you look on the internet. So some question for that video would be, do you use fetilizers, if so what kind. Do you use any macro supplements in your tanks, like iron, nitrogen, potassium etc. You have some great planted tanks and i would love to know whats your secret.

Thanks for a great show idea. Big biggest tip is use great soil based substrate. And trim dead stuff all the time. But I’ll go into more details latter.

Just a quick tip but for stubborn hoses get a coffee mug fill it with water. Microwave for two minutes and dip hose in it makes it very flexible. Really love your videos.

You can also silicone or hot glue some screen material to cover that center hole in lid. Or a spare piece of thin acrylic cut to size to sit over the hole to prevent jumpers. Home Depot has usually has some scrap/smaller pieces for cheap.

Man! I was thrift shopping Saturday and I came across a turtle lamp EXACTLY like the one sitting in between those two tanks. I hemmed and hawed on if I should get it or not. My husband hates clutter but I love both clutter and the lamp. I decided to leave it there. Seeing it suddenly in this video is a sign I should have gotten it. Gulldarnet!

Happy New Year! Happy to have you back again, and thrilled to see a breakdown of the new Fluval Flora. I have to admit, I'm disappointed they don't have the curved corner glass on this one, and that's the deal breaker. I'm wondering if 14.5 gallons is just too much to risk the single piece for the front/sides? I'm still kicking myself for missing out on a used 8-gallon Flora locally. I've got two rimless, curved-corner tanks, Penn Plax Radius in 5 & 7.5 gallons, and I'm going to buy the 10 gallon next (and returning the second Fluval Flex 9 I bought instead). I love how they give you an uninterrupted view of the aquascaping and inhabitants, and the minor distortion doesn't bother me one bit. I've held off on CO2 so far, only 7 months and 5 or so tanks into aquascaping, and haven't lacked for growth, nor wanted the additional complexity (or risk, for that matter). But the Fluval Flora kit at least provides all you would need, if you don't mind the dinky sized CO2 canisters...

This was my first tank, I still use the HOB but added a course spooge on the end of the intake. I also run a spooge filter in the back corner just incase the power goes out while I am gone, as the HOB has a hard time picking up water again without priming

I've found that using hot water works better than a cigarette lighter form making tubing more pliable. You don't end up with hotspots or extra soft plastic.

I always use baby oil instead of water in the bubble counters. It won't evaporate. I'm curious to see how your siphon idea works though.

Hi sir I am planning to build a new tank , I am new to aqua scaping .. so which would be the best starter kit best suited for plants .. I saw many videos and read blogs , but still not sure which one should I go with .. Fluval flora 14.5, Fluval edge , jbl , life guard etc … I need at least 10 gallon + tank with LED and filtration.. any suggestions?

Of the Fluval kits I love the mega flex, the flora . And spec 16 in that order. I like the normal 15 flex too and 12 gallon edge but they weren’t my favorites for various reasons.

This is a great beginner tank or someone wanting to try Co2. I don't like a hang on back filter. Also the Co2 kit is expensive to keep up (have to replace Co2 cartridge every two months. 14.99). Wish they just sold tank, light, and lid.

I feel yeah. Although what’s cool is the way it’s packaged you can sell it off pretty easy or gift it. I ended up (over the years) with like 4 or five of these cartridges and I’m going to use them up lol. Then decide if I want a more “robust” system. Thanks for watching Terry!

It’s not so bad. Get one with a solenoid and a timer. That’s definitely the easiest way to go.

The co2 kit is HOOOOOOORRIBLE. I have it. The regulator is a torture device if you want something that is so difficult to fine tune (and to turn off completely)

That CO2 'system' is so dumb on any tank size but is especially ill suited for a tank that size. Gonna cost so much in replacement cartridges.

Fluval missed their mark on this one.. Disappointing. You did the best review you could do and it’s no reflection on you Sean. I was soo excited to hear of a new flora. I also had two of the originals. This one is disappointing! White background, cheap plastic lid, no mat, no stratum or plant tongs.. Disappointing. It’s a sad day when my new aqueon rimless tank is superior to fluval..

I agree with some of this. The light is lots better. Although I wish it got closer to the middle. The shape, size, and filter are better (than the old). On the fence about the background. A mat would have been cheep to include. I don’t mind the lid. Some substrate would be more useful than the co2. My guess is for this size the weight would be an issue. Especially packed inside the tank. But a coupon would have been a great option.
