I have my 2 on timers. They come on for 15 minutes before the lights come on and since that's daily and not a lot of surface gunk accumulates in one day, 15 minutes is enough to keep the surface clear. I have an Allponds on one aquarium and a Juwel which attaches to the Juwel filter. Both work well.

I prefer the "simple" model you already have in your tank; I have the same one, and to me, it's simply superior and it actually DOES have more features : - You can also adjust the intake of surface water. - A sponge or grill can be placed in the overflow to prevent animals from falling in (such as shrimps in freshwater). - If they do fall in, you can see the interior without disassembling it. There's a bit of filter floss to protect them from the propeller, and the internal flow is gentle enough to prevent injury. Plus, you only need to remove the top unattached overflow to release them. - There's ample space inside for using it as additional chemical filtration compartments. - The included venturi can be used to enhance oxygenation, which is great for freshwater tanks and has replaced my air pump at night. - If the overflow stops, the pump won't run dry. -You don't have to take it out of the tank, disassemble it etc... To clean it, it's a simple and fast process So, yes, I really like this one; the Fluval model seems just like any other to me

Thanks for putting the video together - I have been looking for a skimmer for my shaker. The clearance of the lid runners was my first thought which is why I was looking at the fluval skimmer as they advertise that it stands off from the rim. I notice that at the 6 minute mark when you turn it on and the float gets sucked down it looks like the clearance is not enough and it is then "under the runners" is this the case? I'm still in 2 minds about this or the crystalskim and trying to figure if the clearance is really an issue - any thoughts?

It works fine if you have the water level not full to the runners

what's the difference between this and a protein skimmer ?

Which is better? the old one you are using the one you shown or fluval? i have the same as your old one and that can release bubbles and it is cheaper. I dont see the advantage of fluval?

I have a juwel aquarium that is reef and i currently use the internal filter along with the juwel surface skimmer which is very good… I’ve never tried one of these from fluval

Thanks for the review! This is another product that I didn't know about from Fluval! 😮But I don't think the sponge or anything is necessary because once the dirt is in the water; your other filters will be able to remove it. Do not you think? 😅 - Ramón 🇲🇽

Possibly, I like to just use it to prevent debris hitting the motor, that's probably why the sponge is there

You should have shown it after an hour or so. Now it feels like kind of a scam.

Weird scam

@@EverydayAquarist Cause you have not shown how it actually cleans the surface of the water. It might have not cleaned it at all. The definition of scam according to google is: "a dishonest scheme; a fraud". And the definition of fraud according to google is: "a person or thing intended to deceive others, typically by unjustifiably claiming or being credited with accomplishments or qualities". I think it's spot on.

@@csabavarga8273 I have 2 (Allponds and a Juwel) and they work brilliantly. I only need to run it about 15 minutes each day before the lights come on.

Mate it's a skimmer lmao

I just think it's weird he doesn't show the surface cleaned. That's all. What kind of a review is this if at the end we don't get to know how good the product does its job?
