Awesome! I worked in traffic signal programming, maintenance and repair for 18 years (retired). Loved that job. 20+ years ago, I was tasked to take the speed output and store the speeds for later download and analysis. I wrote the program to do that and display the dates and times of the speeds where dirvers exceeded a posted limit by more than 10 mph. They could use that info to see if speed enforcement by the presence of a police car would slow people down. It worked, no tickets needed to be written, no police unit was needed to sit at the location.

Nicely done. It’s obvious you put some thought into the design. I like the way the solar panel tucks right into the frame when folded down. Maybe a tether for the pins so they don’t get lost.

Brandon Lund just gotta have the boots so there's a place for the welding slag to go and get trapped. I get the shorts. I'm in California and I'd majorly overheat if I had to weld in pants. Too hot all the time!

Those look like the anti vibration pads I have picked out for a project idea im working on for my truck so I can carry 20 ft material from the metal yard. Think ladder rack but like ladder rack/roof rack with a space in the bed for plate. Ive got a picture doodled up and a parts list started. Just waiting for the money and my skills to improve some more before I take on something of this caliber.

Another great vid. If I may make a couple of suggestions - Harbor Freight has some cheap compasses that work with the Markel pen that make drawing circles and rounding corners super easy and repeatable. Also, knocking the corner off those tabs with a bandsaw or cutoff wheel will make things go much faster on the grinder. And lastly, you might want to consider putting some kind of preload on that hold down mount system (to reduce rattle and wear on the road). I've learned a lot watching your vids and hope you take my suggestions in the manner they're intended. Love your channel and look forward to each new vid.
@BrandonLund4 жыл бұрын
All great points buddy! I never take offense when people offer me constructive critism....i actually appreciate it.. its when they are rude, disrespectful or condescending to me that I take issue. I'll check out that compass. I've also considered some drafting tools. Specifically the plastic sheet with different size hole cutouts. Im going to be building a bandsaw jig right off so great point on knocking off the corners. It saves time and the abrasive wheel. So far it hasn't rattled being towed but I concerned about that also. I think because all the weight is located up close to the hitch that there isn't a lot of quick up and down motion. If it were reversed with the sign towards the rear and pivoting at the front i think it would be bouncing all over. Kinda how we used to sit towards the back of the bus when we were kids in school. Riding up front was smooth when the bus driver hit a bump but the kids sitting way in back were getting tossed all around. I appreciate you being a fan of the channel! Thank you! 🙏😁

I liked your build, but having used those trailers, I would have welded a loop or heavy rind so that they can chain it to a sign to prevent some hooligan from relocating it to others parts of town just for kick and giggles!

Do you have a universal square yet? They work wonders for marking square tubing. Especially if you have tubing with a large radius. The square wont slip off the top while youre marking :) great content!

I would have made it were the solar panel folded up flat so debrie dosen't destroy the solar panel
@BrandonLund4 жыл бұрын
Supposedly its impact resistant so time will tell.
@markg91774 жыл бұрын
why didn't you put a sheet metal shield on the trailer frame to protect the solar panel (as they can be pricey)?
@BrandonLund4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe it will be an issue but time will tell i guess. They have a similar trailer with the solar panel mounted in a similar fashion and haven't had any problems. The literature said it was impact resistant and will also take a golf ball size piece of hail at terminal velocity so I guess we will see.

Do you like the tapstick better then using oil for tapping holes

I do if I'm im going to paint/ finish soon after the drilling operation. Cutting fluid usually drizzles out the hole and spoils the finish. Tapstick wont

Good job Brandon, looks really good. But I think that you have given the council workers way too much credit for caring for their equipment. If your guys are anything like our guys, that trailer will be bashed about, abused and not cared for as we would care for our equipment. Hopefully your guys prove me wrong. Cheers pal, looking forward to next week 👋👋

The stated purpose may be to let the drivers know that they are in a speed zone, however, at the next intersection is a police cruiser that is there for the sole purpose of writing a ticket to anybody who chooses to continue to ignore the speed limit sign. Yes they warn them with this sign, but they have radar set up just down the street. I know this because it's often used as an enforcement device in my neighborhood. The police set it up twice a month at the request of the HOA! If someone is stupid enough to get a ticket there, to bad. But don't fool yourself that it's not also a revenue generation unit for the police department/city.
@BrandonLund4 жыл бұрын
Based on what your telling me, my personal opinion on the matter (being a driver going on 35 years) if I see a warning sign like this and i DONT slow down and continue to speed past it, i probably deserve what I get...its supposed to be a visual deterent. For most it probably works.
@alcarey80844 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonLund I agree. But based on what you said in your video about it not being about enforcement, I had to point out the truth. They may have told you otherwise, but this is the truth. My older brother recently retired as the Chief of Police, and my father was a reserve police officer on the same city Police force. I commend you on assisting your local police department, but I felt duty bound to set the record straight.
@matthewhall55714 жыл бұрын
Al Carey I think your city is different from most. At least where I have lived they never have any cops near the sign generally. They just put them in places where the cops have previously seen too much speed or too many accidents and they rotate them around the city to hotspots. Generally the cops just hide if they want to do a speed trap and get people doing more than 10 mph over the limit. They usually don't bother busting people below 10 mph too fast because it isn't worth the paperwork. I know there are plenty of problems with different police departments hence a lot of protests right now but I think these are contributing to valuable driving safety moreso than causing problems for the public.
@BrandonLund4 жыл бұрын
@@matthewhall5571 I agree Matthew. I was told that's basically what they do with this sign. If a resident complains of speeding they will park the sign in the area for a week. It makes the residents feel like their concerns are being addressed and hopefully people see the sign and slow down. I know I slow down when I see one. As you pointed out they constantly rotate the sign throughout the town. I have never seen a cop car anywhere near the speed signs. They usually sit in town while the sign is generally on the outskirts of town. They have a 2nd one similar to this one.
