@Lv7Kevin

This is a very real concern. Flux did post force graphs on their website, but that doesn't tell the entire story of how it will feel. For one, I enjoy a distinct and solid bottom out. There's no way of knowing if I'll like the feel of the Flux without actually using it.
@serbadork

I mean they have Hall effect switches, which are actual mechanical key switches as well. They’re a new version of a concept for a keyboard that has existed since before Cherry even released keyswitches on keyboards. They’re very reliable, and I think they will feel nice to type on.
@noahs7094
@noahs7094 Жыл бұрын
@@serbadork they are not mechanical switches, they’re absent of everything that makes a mechanical switch, mechanical. No stem, spring and least of all the triggering mechanism.

@altairferoli
@altairferoli Жыл бұрын
@@noahs7094 there isn't actually a good definition for what makes a mechanical switch "mechanical", chyrosran22 made a full video on that topic, and the vast majority of definitions people use exclude very good switches, I mean, if feeling mechanical is enough, Topre's are included, and they're rubber domes(but do have far better keyfeel than any MX type tactile switch I ever used), that's just one example. For this one you used, not all mechanical switches use coiled or metal springs, not all mechanical switches have a stem, and this one has a triggering mechanism, in fact, the most reliable one in existance: Hall Effect, which probably makes it a very smooth switch, something almost no MX Type switch can achieve without lube In conclusion, there's no such thing as a definition for a Mechanical Switch, it's just a way to describe how a switch feels, sounds or looks, but not a defined thing at all

Wouldn't back such a project unless someone had it in hand to test. It's all a very nice idea, but the keys they are using are yet to be proven. The software will also be the major thing holding the entire project back. Everytime someone has come up with a cool project with a custom display, it's nothing more than a concept, because no one has put in the work to hook into other APIs, or do anything functionally on your PC. Considering the profile of this, you can bet the entire keyboard is going to run off software that has to always be running in the backgruond to function, other than maybe some sort of default the keyboard can execute when there is no software active.

I don't trust it. how will the board know when a key is pressed? and how durable is the screen?
@Lv7Kevin
@Lv7Kevin Жыл бұрын
To simplify how the keys work, there are magnets in the keys and the board detects how far apart magnets are. The keys don't actually touch the screen so I guess you can think of the keys as a screen protector.

As cool as this is, I'm not sold on it due to it having hall effect switches as an analog method, considering these components develop inaccuracy after a period of use time (as long as they're powered, they're in use) and the inaccuracy becomes a runaway issue after that. I dislike the company so far. They have a video (clearly a marketing stunt), on their own channel, showcasing the device in Adelaide, in Australia, and claimed the price would be $350. This is incorrect even by their own KickStarter, where the claimed MSRP is going to be $450 USD; and I call it a clear marketing stunt considering they couldn't even get the local currency correct, but instead stated the incorrect pricing for the currency that would hit a wider audience, even when the company themselves are Australian. Absolutely terrible behavior for an upcoming company to display, though I'm not all that surprised considering it's a crowdfunded startup. I also wouldn't be surprised if this sees the typical kickscammer issues of endless delays because of 'manufacturing and partner issues' and the actual retail unit being 1.5x to 2x the cost, based on how the company is already presenting themselves. Oh and let's look at the company itself, shall we? Looks like Flux _Group_ has existed since 2021, but Flux _Technologies_ that was founded in 2019, which has the daughter companies of Flux _Media_ and Flux _Finance,_ which is a financial guru service (remember that Coffeezilla bused these kinds of gurus before busting crypto bros), where Flux Tech is estimated at making over $5m in revenue in the last fiscal year (not sure if localized to AUD), and they have some app on at least the Android app store that's probably part of their financial guru bullshit. And yes, both are related, both have Joffe heading them. Oh, and to validate the financial guru claim, Google's sub-hit (secondary link for a site within a site on a main hit) for the Flux Finance link literally says, "Win at money," and within the homepage for the Finance site they literally refer to themselves as the 'Flux fam' within the bullshit flavor text, along with some meme gifs, bright colors and popping animations, a podcast, etc. Maybe I should throw this company Coffeezilla's way just to see what the hell comes out of it, because my gut is telling me it's nothing but scum, especially with how the company is structured. Plus there's also the fact that Flux _Group_ is supposedly a team of, from their own KS page, "A growing team whose capabilities include industrial design, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, UI/UX design and software development," yet they have nothing to show for it under the _Group_ company besides this product, and they try to hide any link to the _Technology_ company that seems to be the umbrella for at least everything else, yet all they have to show for their claim is a finance guru site that has an app. So tell me why an estimated >$5m in revenue company, that's seemingly a predatory financial guru at its core, needs to launch a KickStarter for this, while also blatantly lying about the price within its own media, while also using the incorrect currency in that statement when they were in Australia, talking to Australians, when they themselves are also Australian, operating out of Australia. Shit doesn't add up, and I have no faith that this product won't become vaporware, because the company and the people running it are clearly untrustworthy. Do you trust your gut in putting any faith into this company? Profiling a company can reveal quite a bit, especially when you dig deeper than just the surface level. Company issues aside, there's still the glaring issue that this product is on a timer, hall sensors have roughly 1000 hours of on-time before age-related voltage drift (i.e. the inaccuracy) shows itself and starts becoming a runaway issue.

Yes, the extra features are definitely the main selling point. The "keyboard" part is kind of secondary. For me personally, if everything they promised works as advertised it'll be worth it. But I can understand that it's not for everyone.
@hongphucvu8599
@hongphucvu8599 Жыл бұрын
Most people don't own a custom mechanical keyboard and doesn't care much about typing feel but more about productivity. This thing is aimed toward them, not custom keyboard specialists. The ability to assign macros to each key and display shortcuts itself is a win. You can buy custom keycaps which has shortcuts printed on them. But it then it would be locked to a specific program. Typing feel is unknown but I feel most people would overlook that and focus more on the features and functionality. I personally don't think this is not a flashy product and is much more practical than many 400$+ custom keyboards out there. But it all depends on use cases and your profession. Also don't call people normies lmao, that just make you sound pretentious.
