You lucked out at the Oak. I fished it a few days prior and it was mostly all kings and triple the crowds. Good to see the browns are in.

The video is awesome. Makes me miss my trips to the area. Never got to the Oak, but I fished other tribs off Erie and Ontario. Sometimes, the bead destroys them. Swinging flies is a good time, though, you might catch less, but more aggressive fish.
@richstevens57277 жыл бұрын
Mustve just missed you up there. Was righy there by the club all day Thursday! Landed 2 nice browns and burned through plenty of tackle with those kings. Was also using beads for my first time and im thoroughly convinced now.

Great video! You can't beat the fall brown trout fishery on those western NY tribs. The Oak gets a bit too overcrowded for me, but there are plenty of other streams with big browns up there for everyone to enjoy. Best of luck this fall season!

Hi Mike. I fished that river when I was in College back in the late 1960's. Lake Ontario was so polluted back then the fishing wasn't very good. The transformation of the Great Lakes into a world class sport fishery is amazing. That first brown you landed had to go 26"?

What size rod u using?
@tomatoplot7 жыл бұрын
Excellent video! Enjoyed it! A question though - why do you put the hook so far below the bead? You would think it would be more effective right next to it.
@WoolyBugged7 жыл бұрын
tomatoplot I thought that too, but 1 inch to 2 inches is right. The fish inhales the bead and when you set the line the hook catches the corner of their mouth. It's magic!
@zivkoradojcic5 жыл бұрын
Nicee as always!!what is the rod that you use? can you use 5x-6x rod for salmon on Pulaski river or you need stronger rod?
@leefritchman96435 жыл бұрын
Zivko Radojcic no way. At least a 7wt. Most use an 8 wt for kings
@DasBurGovna6 жыл бұрын
So you were swinging that pattern? No dead drift with indicator? I wanna try this.
@WoolyBugged6 жыл бұрын
I was doing both. I was dead drifting with an indicator on the line and I swung the set-up as well. I had hits using both approaches.
@fish4life2377 жыл бұрын
Did you put the split shot like 1 to 1 and a half foot above the bead
@WoolyBugged7 жыл бұрын
fish4life yes to the split shot but more like a foot above the bead.
@fish4life2377 жыл бұрын
Wooly Bugged and do you use like a rio 9ft 3x leader or what
@WoolyBugged7 жыл бұрын
fish4life you can use a 9'-3X leader or 2X/1X, it depends on water conditions/clarity. I've had larger fish break 3X so it's a guessing game. Then there's the fluorocarbon debate.

Greg Sheu we are fortunate to have this fishery, not many places on earth to catch giant browns with this type of frequency.

Greg Sheu Yeah, same here. I moved from Western NY to So Cal and I have to go to Utah to find decent fly fishing without wall to wall people.

Big Papi You don't like Eastern Sierra?
@bigpapi36367 жыл бұрын
Greg Sheu I love the Eastern Sierra and I used to fish it extensively from Lone Pine to Reno. For whatever reason, social media being one the spots I used to fish are now crowded with fishermen, littered and pretty much un fishable. I still fish there a couple times a year but I need to go further and further into the mountains to get away from people. I went into a spot where I had never seen anyone fish last year and there are 10 guys pulling cutthroats off their spawning beds and putting them on stringers. I fished a popular creek in Sabrina Basin and picked two garbage bags of litter in about two hours of fishing. The number and quality of fish have been steadily going down hill for the last 20 years unfortunately.
@lensherlinski92737 жыл бұрын
Mike where did you purchase your beads? I was wondering if a set up like that might work for late fall fishing here in Pa.? I fished Oak Orchard for many years, it was before the archery range opened their doors to parking, we use to park on top of the hill for $2.00 a day. Great video as usual, we are waiting for our streams to go down a little so we can get some fall action.
@WoolyBugged7 жыл бұрын
Len Sherlinski I bought those up in New York at Orleans Outdoors. You can buy them online many places! Hope the water cooperates for you soon!

@outfaded343 жыл бұрын
What is the rig your using?
@WoolyBugged3 жыл бұрын
Jeremy, I believe I was using a 10'-8wt rod with a 8wt rated reel and floating WF line with a 9'-2X tapered leader to a swivel and then 18" of 3X tippet to the fly or bead. The fish can be line shy so sometimes I'll change leader and tippet diameter. I put the weight above the swivel and dead drift it.

Michael Fredericks that’s simply not a rational point of view Michael. It’s public water, everyone pays to fish it and puts their time in and has fun.

Michael Fredericks Hate to break it to ya Mikey, but the licenses that us out of staters buy from your state to fish, help to sustain this Amazing fishing establishment with nursery and stocking programs and many other programs that you guys have. The money from our license helps to keep establishing this amazing fishery you guys have. Get your head out of your ass.
