This water several years ago was the place to be. A lot has happened here which is not all good. It is still a good water. But it takes a lot of work to keep a water at top notch all the time. And there has to be a balance as to when to stock and how many. This has been ignored for the benefit of some. So now the water needs a break and a good sort out. Which may well happen, as there are new owners moving in. Jamie the existing owner has done very well with the water. But he works on his own. This water is too big for one person to run. But yes a stunning location. And I love being there.

As you say it's not always about numbers, when you're out just enjoy the day. 👍👍

Not enough out there of the real things we can experience when fishing Martin. This numbers game unless you are in a competition, to me is pointless. For me I struggle to remember how many I get in a day. Purely because it means nothing.

Thanks Shaun, nice video again. I am fishing tomorrow, it’s gonna be tricky as well but more rewarding when there is a little success. Tight lines, Dermot.

Hope you have a great day tomorrow Dermot. I will be on the water tomorrow, but I am expecting it to be a bit better than difficult as the fish at hays has picked up over the last week. Take care mate. Shaun.

Hi Shaun, one Rainbow on farmoor. Same as the last trip Black Mamba from the bank. I had a good go at all depths. Great to be out, I hope you had a productive day today. Keep the videos coming. Tx dermot

@@DFomalley Actually I have a feeling that I know somebody personally that fishes that water, and there averages are quite good. I will check this out, and get back to you on that one. It may be useful. Black Mamba strikes again. Gareth will be happy. I struggled to get three. They were on the Hays b&b. Steve had four. How he got these was unreal. One of the boys was fishing with this black and red mop fly for about an hour. No fish. Ended up loosing this fly. Steve found this fly. Tied on and had his four fish. He was talking to Max (who lost the fly) at end of day. So Steve decided to own up and return the fly. Telling Max how many fish he had on the fly. Max had a blank. But I won't tell you what max said. Fun day. But the fishing was a bit slower appose to the last few weeks. Catch up soon Dermot. Take care mate. Shaun.

Hi Dermot. Dry fly. Do your thing as per normal as this would be your confidence method. But if failing try a dry fly. I have witnessed this just the other day on a water renowned for lures this time of year. Numbers were low. Apart from one. Fished a small dry. Lesson learned even for me. Condition would have not suggested dry, and just a hand full of fish coming up. Goes to show. Get in there mate. Shaun. Oh don't worry to much about presentation, as we often have a ripple on this time of year.

Hi Shaun, 100% agree. Back in October I had a good day out on a small still water venue, with some surface activity evident, I tried a popper fry pattern. In your recent video i believe your emerger pattern appeared to work in a similar way, aggressive takes and large wakes following the fly. I have to say this is not conventional dry fly practice but it was great fun when it worked, a week later other flies and deeper lines were more productive. Thanks again Shaun, Merry Christmas. Dermot

Shaun, i recently found your channel a month a go, Ive only begun fly fishing last year, so still very much a beginner. Fished for the first time with a indicator the other day and enjoyed trying out different methods. Just bought my first intermediate line. Im ex navy so never had the chance to get into this hobby, fallen in love with it. I saw your going through hard times. I think opening up is always good, to see other peoples going through similar situations and realising there's other people aswell in your situation. Ive got to say there is something very peaceful about your channel, and the way you present the information and the method and the theory behind is very clear and good to understand. Your Portugal video was very interesting, what is it you do for work?

Hi Gavin, sorry but I did miss your comment. So pleased I have found it now. Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes opening up is the way to go. Having people around you that care is the greatest help anyone can have. Nobody is perfect. So its looking at your self and understanding what went wrong. For me its to late to fix. But I can learn from this. And hopefully become a better person. Fly fishing is a great past time. I have enjoyed a lot of fishing from Sea, river and still waters. The simplicity of fly fishing I love. In other words, all I have to do is grab a few bits and I can fish. I love just fly casting. The boys and myself don't often target stocked waters. Mind on the occasion this is fun. I think if we did this all the time we would get bored. There are many patterns that will catch these fish, so we would not learn much. We will often set our selves a challenge to make it more interesting. And if we get a fish or two we are happy. We are very lucky in our part of the world. South West of Wales. We have a lot of good coastal waters. This year we are looking at fly fishing these waters. As you are new to this I would urge that you keep in touch with what you love about being on the water. It is so easy to get caught up in the numbers game. I really hope you have many memorable days on the water. Be patient as there is a lot to learn. But the learning can be fun. Thank you so much for your comment Gavin. If We can ever help, just ask. Shaun.

@@shaunfishes101 Thanks for you reply. I live north east scotland, close to forres, I usually get out on the river findhorn. Part of the hobby I love is exploring the river and seeing places I haven't seen before. And equally fishing with a mate! I learn a lot from your videos, they're perfect evening watch. I hope to see more coming from you. Take care
