Great video! It’s incredibly informative and, as an angler from NE England, I think there are lessons I can learn to find new water.

What a wonderful film - as a lifelong fisherman it lifts my heart to hear your knowledge and passion that millions of us share. Have always wanted to catch a wild brownie on a London river like the Wandle or Lee.
@flyfishinglondonerАй бұрын
Wandle is your best bet and whilst it isn't the easiest place a competent angler would rarely blank. The Lee is in London might have some but I've not heard much.

Wonderfully informative and encouraging video - living only 30mins from central London by train and occasionally working in the city I built up a small roving kit and it’s amazing the wealth of fish I’ve had over the years on fly and coarse fishing. Would encourage others to get out and try too.

I’m always astonished by the over all confusion of some of the UK and European rules in hunting and fishing. We have our own struggles here in the US as its state and federal… for the most part it’s so simple. I live I’d Georgia and we have year round all species fishing. The only special license needed is for trout, and that’s to help fund stocking programs throughout the years . Fresh water species are Bass. Large mouth Spotted bass White bass Crappie Blue gill Stripper Cat fish , blue , channel and flathead Gar Trout ( in the mountains) Rainbow, brown and Brook Perch Carp Then off the coast Ga has salt water big game. There are some private waters but not many and even with that no special permit other that to pay for a day trip. It’s amazing to think about how much fishing one can do in our state in one year. If ever visiting the colonies … give it a try. Oh and btw , great video and wonderful information.
@flyfishinglondonerАй бұрын
@@lockhackle2645 In Germany they have to take a test before getting a licence and in some states there catch and release is technically illegal. Much of our situation boils down to mostly private ownership of land with 1% owning about 25%.

Nice work Tim! Keston Ponds were "country" fishing for Bromley kids in the 70's. It used to hold some big (almost impossible to catch) carp, along with roach, rudd, tench, and pike. Has anyone checked on the old ( late 1800s) ice ponds off Plaistow Lane? No idea if there's legal access, though that wasn't something we even thought of as 10-year-olds...
@flyfishinglondonerАй бұрын
The carp are still there and the top pond has one serious pike in it.

I used to fish the Grand Union in Perivale, the pond in Gunnesbury Park and the stretch of the Thames near Kingston power station (thanks to the 65 bus). I used to stare at the Brent in Pitshanger Park, and dream of the day that it would be worth fishing

Very informative video, Tim. I lived in London for 65 years and used to fly fish the Wandle. I've moved away now I'm retired (I'm fortunate to live half a mile from the Test, although fishing it is too rich for my blood - I have found free or reasonably priced stretches of the Itchen). Outside London itself, but within the M25, you mentioned the Darent, but the Chess around Rickmansworth is worth a cast. Tight lines.

I've fished the Chess before, ten years ago. Caught one chub, not much else. Would be worth a revisit.

I am 58 , as a 15 year old I lived in Ruislip Gardens , I used to fish the canal in Uxbridge and if you walk the canal north until you get to the first lock keepers cottage , I believe the river colne runs under the canal , there was a weir behind the cottage , I used to catch grayling there regularly , not large , maybe 1/4 to half pound , I wonder what that spot is like now as I’ve moved far from London now and many years have passed Great informative video

@flyfishinglondonerАй бұрын
They used to be under the auspices of a club many years ago which is now defunct. I don't they ever had a close season in place and in any case plenty of lure anglers fish it year round.

Hey mate im a lure angler and im trying for pike i found the video very informative but i have a question is there any docks in particular that you can fish in canary warth legally?
@flyfishinglondonerАй бұрын
The docks don't have many pike at all. There are loads of people who lure fish the docks without issue although there are some areas where you have 'no fishing' signs.

Theoretically yes. As long as there are saltwater fish present you can fish for them year round although bass and mullet are mostly about March to November really.
