FISHING FOR A THREATENED SPECIES OF TROUT!
The greenback cutthroat trout is a trout native only to the south platte river basin in Colorado. It was once declared extinct in 1937 before it was found in the headwaters of one tiny creek. To this day the fish is still listed as a threatened species according to the Endangered Species Act, however do to some amazing conservation efforts the fish is thriving is several areas in Colorado. This allows anglers to catch one of these little Rocky Mountain gems and get an up close and personal look at what was almost lost to history.
My brother and I caught several healthy greenback cutthroat on this day. The beautiful clear water of the Rocky Mountains produced not only a vista that was hard to compete with, but it also produced a fish who's colors were nothing short of amazing.
Thanks for watching!

Fishing Etiquette 101 taken straight out of the Fishing Gospel "wet hands, rubber coated net and minimum time outta the water" should be applied when chasing any Trout especially one that went almost extinct ! A Big AMEN to that ! The Rainbow Color Patterns on those Cut Throat Trout were absolutely amazing. Must have sent Goose Bumps up your backside when landing those beauties. Thank you very much for your time and effort in putting this video together including the history lesson on this beautiful species of Cut Throat Trout. Well done ! 👍

Too funny... As you were describing the spot in the beginning, I knew there's only one like it, and then I recognized the old wooden structure. I fished that spot one month ago and had a blast. I caught one further upstream that had scales along the edge of the green back that sparkled. I have more of that section to explore.

Those high gradient streams, some of those waterfalls have to be impossible for the cutthroat trout to get above them to spawn. You guys got them as far as they could go upstream it seems. I love brookies, but they should not have been put in western waters to compete with the natives there. That ship has long since sailed. I enjoyed the video same as always.
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing Жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure if they would've been farther up the creek where it flattened out or not. We kind of got to the point where we had to commit to the creek or go back to where we knew we could catch them and we chose the latter of the two. I'd like to go back up in there one day and see if they're up higher or not

would you be able to comment back or do a video on some good areas to go fly fishing in GA. I know all of the general areas(blue ridge etc.) im just looking for some specific areas jsut to narrow it down a little but i live about 2 to 3 hours south of blue ridge and i want to get up there to try it out but i dont want to drive up 3 hours and waste a day because i cant find fish (i have already done this 2 times) 😂

Would a cutthroat go for a worm. Or would you catch alot less? I fished a nice trout stream that had browns, rainbows and brookies with a few flies and only caught a sucker. I didn't really know my flies very well, but I switched to a silver spinner and started catching. That's here in Quebec where people don't fly fish much. What do you think?
