@@IBandAndyFishing I haven't been getting out much of late but me my eldest son and a good friend of mine were out a week past Sunday, after pike on lures and dead baits. We tried two canals and a still water we were out for about 10 hours and all we managed was one drop run! 3 lure rods on the go and 4 dead bait rods all day . We all fished hard all day and tried every trick in the book and every lure in the box and nothing we didn't even get a follow with the lures. We also call at a 4th water a very large still water just to see if there were anyone having any joy there we spoke to 4 anglers and they had not even had a run! At the end of the day you could look at wether conditions etc etc, but if there not feeding there not feeding. On a + note it was a welcome brake good company and a lot of laughs and some much needed time with my eldest son.

Nice vlog! Keep it up! Any reason for preferring the floating line and yarn over a French leader?
@IBandAndyFishing5 жыл бұрын
In terms of presentation I don't, the frenchie fished well is a far better presentation. On this river we can't wade, and as such the French Leader can be really limiting in terms of where you can reach, the indicator can fish places the frenchie can't

always enjoy your films.... i was just about to ask when ypu prifure the indekator insted of french leader?... so if i fish i bigger river that is 200m wide the indekator is to prifure?

I really feel like in terms of covering water you can do it better with the indicator. No question though the French Leader is the better presentation

Hi Andy - nice vlog with some interesting points. A quick technical question re the indicator system. I notice you use the Loon strike indicator yarn rather than the NZ wool - do you find it better? Is the yarn actually supporting the heavy nymph? or should the nymph bounce along the stream bed so no need for the yarn to take the weight of the nymph?
@IBandAndyFishing5 жыл бұрын
Great questions Iain, thanks for taking the time to watch and ask! I much prefer strike out to the yarn in the NZ kit, I find it far more buoyant. In terms of where in the water column, that really comes down to the fish. On this day I had to get the heavy point fly ticking the river bed, on other days it doesn't need to get quite as deep. This really is why I carry the two different outfits, so I can keep switching. I'd rather catch them off the deck on the one fly rig, but it doesn't always happen!

Andi I would love to fish with a Guide like you. I like catching fish but for me the whole outdoor trip is my medication. I remember my one and only Guide on the Bow River in Calgary Alberta. His name was Tom Cutmore and he was a great guy, but drifting the river you had to cover a lot of water quickly so he had this quick cast "Tomahawk Chop!" Three strips Tomahawk Chop three strips casting at every deflection along the bank! As the day went on he took on the tone of a German Drill Sargeant! By day's end my shoulder had lost all feeling or I would have Tomahawk Chopped him! 😂🤣 Seriously he was a good guy but wow! If I was ever to hire a Guide again I would do a walk and Wade I think but I'm pretty sure unless I fish out of the country I won't need one, but to this day I swear I hear Tom yelling "Tomahawk Chop!"

The thing is - it costs £150 for a day ticket there, and £75 (during low season) if you're residing at the hotel, which in itself would bring the price back up to a £150 - £200 approx. A season ticket to fly fish in NZ is £100...for non residents. Just to put that into perspective. What would be really cool guys if you could maybe inform & showcase some of the rivers/beats/names/access/price and locations etc. which are quite affordable? This would get so many more people into the sport in England and give great insight into what the fishing is actually about. It's all well and good posting videos of you fishing and maybe noting which river you're on (which I respect) but just consider potentially chucking more info into it, who to contact, what the prices are etc. Otherwise people be massively off put if they Google search the River in question and type in "Fly Fishing" next to it, purely by the horrendous prices. Respectively England is probably one of the last places in which this sport is still classed as upper class by some! - which is nonsense as it is so widely available to all classes around the world and should be made more available in the UK. I apologise for the rant, I do however hope you see my point. Thanks for the video and tight lines!
@IBandAndyFishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nemanja, thanks for the view, much appreciated! Regarding cost of fishing - you left the same comment on a vlog we filmed on the river dove, which isn't day ticket and far, far cheaper than the costs you've listed here. The reason why we don't fish many day ticket waters around here is that there aren't many, and those that are we can't afford. We're lucky to have access to the Wye, lathkill and Derwent through the peacock fly fishing club, and to the dove through a syndicate. That's over 20 miles of river that we're already spending money on. We've been down to Wales and filmed vlogs on day ticket water, I think we even mentioned who we get the tickets through, but our policy is not to mention beat names because we respect the anglers who fish these places regularly and the cost and effort it will have needed to discover these areas. If we can find some good day ticket water locally we'll film on it, and if the owner wants us to name it we will, but we can't afford to spend £100s on day tickets when we're already heavily invested in our clubs. Hope this explains both our position and our policy of not naming beats, thank you again for watching our videos 👍👍👍

We have some super reservoir fishing within an hour of this location- Errwood Reservoir is available for days at c£25, there’s ladybower similar price. Both well stocked and the regulars free with advise. Streams and rivers are generally more pricey but I’m still looking at the options
