Is there anything better than Fly Fishing for Native Brook Trout? These fish take you to some of the most beautiful places and this fishery did not disappoint. There were plush greenery, huge rock faces, and deep pools. Thankfully, with higher flows and slightly off color water, the fish were cooperative and some great brook trout were caught. The key to success was a dry dropper, where the nymph caught all the fish, and the dry fly acted as indicator. Enjoy a second installment of me chasing these beautiful fish!

Great video Mike! Native brookies quickly become my favorite thing to fish for this time of year. That one brookie was a beast! Although I'm a sucker for a dry dropper this time of year

Agreed on all points. I want to get a bit more dry action. I may try a smaller rod today with a dry and then dry dropper. Super effective way to fish, but also just fun. I gotta check out your guys stuff now. 100 fish days don't come around often! My best day on the water was a 50-60 plus fish day, lost count. It was on a dry dropper, small stream :) Tight lines fellas!

What great day fishing for brookies. I really am enjoying your commentary and teaching. Keep it coming Mike.

Thanks 👍 Appreciate the compliment and feedback! It is a super fine line. Firstly, I can always learn more, so it's not like I am some life long expert. However, the biggest thing is some people may not want all the talking, so I try to not over do it if possible. At end of day though, if something I said about approach, set up, or tactics helped someone through explaining and they then catch more fish, my job was done well. Tight lines David!

Thanks man. Anything at 10" is a stud in my book. 12" would be the beast of the east to me :) I got another yesterday, but no GoPro headmount means no footage to share. DOH! I will have to try again next time. Tight lines my friend!

Great looking section of water. I have found hemlocks to be one sign of a healthy brook trout stream...
@tightliningmd
@tightliningmd 3 жыл бұрын
I think thats a fair assessment. The places I have seen them usually hold good brown and brook populations as well. Makes for random prospecting of a new stream to be more likely to hold fish if you see that sign. Thanks for watching Matt, as always I appreciate it!

Is this the gunpowder I just started fly fishing I’ve been loving fishing there but I would really like to catch my first brook trout any tips on how to look for them?
@tightliningmd
@tightliningmd 14 күн бұрын
Austin, I would suggest exploring tribs of the Gunpowder. They are around. My favorite place to fish for them is in the Catoctins or Western MD though. Just know, they can be caught in Baltimore County too!

Mike, love how you use barbless hooks, those natives deserve it...I dont like using a net for Brookies either, but love my landing glove, Orvis has a good one, it protects fish natural slime and makes it easier to grab....great videos

@tightliningmd 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and kind words Peter. Love native brookies and certainly not always easy to find in this area. I make sure to use a rubber net for same reasons. I’ll have to look into glove. Glad there are other options. Tight lines and have a great spring season!

Nice to see your technique for fishing downstream but still getting those nice drifts, I like to fish upstream, when possible, but it's not always the easiest to do based on access. great vid.
@tightliningmd
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
I would say I fish upstream about 90-95% of the time. But jig streams and flies on the swing are really fun too and don't require it as well. Gotta love mixing it up and trying something different.

What’s up man, this looks a lot like hemlock gorge. Never caught any brookies there but definitely a brown or two. Super cool cave off the side of the trail, if this is in fact the gorge.

Natural camaflouge is important. If I get too close on that rock it is a wrap. Getting in the water may cause wake, things just kinda worked out. Def made landing the bigger one a bit more challenging though lol. Appreciate you watching Dan, headed to check out yours now!

Hey Jack! I see quite a variety of Euro Nymphs on my website site. Go to www.tightliningms.com and look for the store area. I sell a variety of options in sizes, types, streamers too! I was in Pennsylvania in this video. However, I’d highly encourage you to go to Savage River and fish and its tribs. You will find brookies galore.

The large dry fly made it really easy to actually see where you were casting, which was incredibly helpful for a new flyfisherman like myself to see what you were doing. Out of curiosity, how deep was the water you were fishing and catching fish? And how often did you adjust the distance between your dry fly and nymph? I ask because it didn’t always look like there was enough distance between the dry and nymph for the nymph to hit bottom. Thank you for all of your content. As a Maryland resident getting into fly fishing, this KZbin channel is awesome.
@tightliningmd
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that helped. The larger fly helps me too lol. I like bushy dries and stimulators, especially dry droppers. I am usually around 8-12 inches below the dropper, if tied off the bend of hook. I am typically closer to 12-18 if I did a double surgeons knot to do my dry dropper. I am not trying to get to the bottom, more mid column if I am fishing dry dropper. If I want to get to bottom I go to nymphing. Thank you for watching and following. I appreciate it. Hope to do more videos this year but tight for time. I will record a Euro nymphing series this year though. Looking forward to that. Tight lines and enjoy MD

Glad you enjoyed it! I had a great outing yesterday as well, but forget the mount for the GoPro, so all the good fish only I know about lol. I will have to go back with my gear and try to duplicate the success. Thankfully most of the people in this area are just hiking and not fishing. So far 2 for 2 on no other fisherman. Can't beat that!

Great video and editing, I love the brook trout theme, I have been doing the same recently up here in NY with some of the bigger rivers running high. Great job on that big brookie, when you hooked it I was hoping it was a brook, I have done the same thing in streams with both brook and browns and hook a fish that size and I'm just hoping its a native.

Thanks 👍 Def had a blast exploring new water for sure. We have all been there, sometimes that stress puts you in the zone though to focus on getting them in correctly. Thankfully the barbless hook did not let me down :) I had no hits on that dry, it is HUGE lol. Next time I order I definitely need to size down. However, ya never know, and for now it is a perfect indy lol.
