I’ve always wanted to catch a fish on a lure that I made myself. Come with us on a trip up to Portland, Maine to meet Local Legend Capt. Ben Whalley. Ben is an elite fly designer and fly fishing guide. He’s gonna teach me how to tie a proper fly and then we’re going fly fishing for Striped Bass to put my lure and skills to the test.
Thanks to our friends at Yeti for sponsoring this episode and thanks to Ben and his family for being the best hosts ever.
To book a guided fly fishing trip with Ben or to sign up for his monthly fly releases check out his website: www.benwhalleyfishing.com/
And be sure to give him a follow on the ol Instagram app just like those fish be following his flies to the boat!
/ benwhalleyfishing
Another HUGE thank you goes out to Bri Dostie for sharing her amazing artwork with us from the Stripers in our Hands campaign. Bri and Sascha Clark Danylchuk from Keepfishwet.org are working to share science-based best practices in fish handling to help save Striped Bass. Stripers have been an icon of the East Coast for Millenia and they’re in decline. The future of the fishery is in our hands!
Check out more of Bri’s art here: www.bridostie.com/
And here’s a great list of resources to learn more about what you can do to protect striped bass!

Last but not least, thanks to the Saltwater Edge in Middletown, Rhode Island for connecting us with Ben. If you’re in the market for any new fishing gear or tips, they’re your guys!

You are one of the leading edges of conservation in the USA, Brad. Like it or not. Knowledge is power, and those who exude knowledge get to steer the ship. You are doing good work.

@Bradleone - Come up to central Maine. I know the coolest apple tree grafter, a great local pottery shop ( they are literal legends), we have some of the best Goose hunting on the east coast, also the Nations largest Organic Fair, and then there's the ocean that has y'know like lobsters and stuff. Touch base, Ill get you set up!

Hey Brad, I just wanted to say that I've really enjoyed the fishing legends you've been featuring on your channel. I hope to see more fishing and cooking! The KZbin fishing channels have reignited my love for fishing. I hadn't done much since I was a kid, but now I'm eager to pick it up again as an adult. It would be crazy to see "Mav" on your channel. Watching you cook with his truck camping setup, or maybe even ice fishing together in the winter, would be amazing. He's truly a legend!

The yeti gang. He gets it. he really really gets it. Like I think KZbin should have realized that is the was better to do the out development of Americana than like weird ass competition which was never complete. Like what’s actually going to keep people on to do the next iteration. Let me know. I know and there’s a whole thing to have a grooming brand which is helpful I mean I don’t know I’m not white so like let’s not depend on gq and like what do the Europeans do.
