Fly fishing is frustrating, trout fishing is a lot more appealing when there is nothing else to catch. Can we get a hint about the "banger" of a video???? 👀

@1Rod1ReelFishing I know this sounds weird, but do you think I could catch a bass on a bobber alone (and a hook)? Maybe adding in some 'walk-the-dog' action?

I've been fly fishing for about 10 years and I totally agree with your dude there. Don't get caught up in the gear junkie game in fly fishing when starting out. In fact my dream to to start a channel on how to get started fly fishing with the minimum bare essentials and starting techniques. This video is absolute pleasure. Thanks for trying out new things and letting us go along for the ride.

Using a tapered leader will definitely give you more pin-point accuracy. You can tie your own up with four or five pieces of gradually heavier trilene bloodlined together.
@BlackNomadFabrication3 жыл бұрын
One tip: when you are hooking a fish make sure that you don't pull from above your pointer finger, and you put the line under the pointer finger while hooking, to keep the line tight. Your casting is great, but one thing is that if you don't want to hook yourself is by raising your arm up a little bit, also when casting back, look back to make sure that it forms a loop and if you are not looking, make sure that you don't hear snapping, that means you're going to fast with you casting and you must slow down to not lose your fly.

Grew up a bass angler because i had access to my family's farm pounds but when i moved out west i fell in love with fly fishing and barely use my conventional tackle anymore. Warmwater species are a lot of fun to fly fish for as well

I'm surprised and happy that the technique guys haven't been in here complaining. I'm just getting back into fly fishing and will be taking a trip in a couple weeks. This video has me excited. One piece of advice. When working the fly in the water, try wrapping the index finger of your rod hand under the line then strip with your free/reel hand from behind your rod hand instead of in front. This way you'll have fewer chances of losing control of the line. As far as casting, you're already better than me. I'm out here looking like I'm casting spells instead of flies. Anyway, It's great to see you guys out in a stream and promoting conservation.

Tip: I’ve only used 3x or 5X leader and tippet of the same size. Also bend your fly line at the loop to thread your guides when setting up your fly rod. It’ll help if you accidentally let go and it won’t fall through all of your guides.

When you strip a streamer, point the rod tip toward the streamer, keep you rod down. that will impart better action to your fly. When you strip pointing the streamer, you will set the hook when you strip. No need to set hook and no lost on fish when it strike.

Fly fishing is an art. Learn to feel the rod and let it whip the line out. It is an extension of your arm. Be patient and allow the line to make it back before you sling it out again or the line will buckle and turn into a knot- lol! You'll get the idea of it. Thank you for sharing- it seems you had a lot of fun!

You don't need a tapered leader, when I first started i went straight to tippet. However using a tapered leader feels so much more different and it helps so much also it makes the difference in dry fly fishing. Also keep in mind skye didn't say this but when reeling in a fish you want to use the reel and just not stripping it in because your line will go all over the place, and If it was a big fish you would've lost it as your hand would be pinching the line instead of the reel working the drag system and letting the fish take line. One more thing is when I strip set I pull my rod up too and I tend to hook and land 99% of my fish very rarely do I lose a fish when fly fishing however that's me and maybe my luck Happy to see you getting into something a little new mike

Fly fishing is my favorite way to catch trout and pike because the fight is so much more fun. When stripping line always have your hand pinching the line to the rod and loosen your grip when you want the line in or vice versa.

Mad respect! I could live eat and breathe flyfishing.
@madtownangler3 жыл бұрын
All you need is a clear bobber made to cast flies. Back when I fly fished I could get my entire line out of the spool and into the air and then switch hands back and forth. Then I hooked someone behind me and stopped fly fishing very much. I only fish in a boat now and I have a one weight for bluegills. Also if you have a basket in front of you on your belt you can let your line go in there rather than in the water to get tangled up.
