I went there with a buddy a couple weeks back. He caught a couple small trout, and didn't catch anything. Plenty of bites but couldn't hook 'em. Great video

Thanks - I hiked up to Three Ponds in the SW corner of the WMNF, and just when May flies started coming off it started raining. I did catch a few small brook trout in a feeder stream - but would have liked wading out into Middle Pond as it looked like it had a sandy gravel bottom. One nice thing is the WMNF shelter, where you can wait out the rain and dry off your clothes - it also has a fire pit and area for pitching a tent. I didn't see any bears, but I did find a large bear track in the mud, good thing I make a lot of noise when hiking alone.

Your fly spent more time in the air than in the water.

Yes, my experience fly fishing on lakes and ponds is the fish strike quickly after the fly plops down on the water, or after you a couple of tugs. Try fly fishing for bass this way. It’s a lot of fun when you see the fish take the fly. I occasionally fish using streamers, but when there are no strikes these clips often don’t get published. Fly Fishing on remote ponds is different than fishing on rivers and streams where you cast and let the fly float by areas where fish are holding. On ponds the fish are often moving or are hanging out near cold water springs, so you end up casting and searching the area.

I’ve not had any success fishing the East Branch of the Pemi. The river is scoured every spring of plant life and insects. With water so clear, the brook trout entering from small streams are quickly eaten by mergansers, along with stocked trout. Lower sections of the river off Rt 93 are more productive and have some large caddis fly hatches in June. If you are in the area, check out the bridge crossings on the Swift and Saco Rivers. Good Luck!

@@RemoteFlyFishing Agreed- that stretch is sterile- you can bet it is locked up frozen for months, too.

@@RemoteFlyFishing I have had decent success tenkara fishing the east branch of the pemi! I had no luck until I got up away from the bridge, and then only when I drifted my kebari right in front as many rocks that looked like decent hiding spots as I could. the fish know they are vulnerable, but they are there!

GoPro camera for most of these videos, but I now also carry a Sony FDR-X3000 as GoPros only offer a wide angle lens and limited in the ability to zoom .
