Fly Fishing Patagonia's Paloma River - WIND & Rainbow & Brown Trout on Big Dry Flies & Streamers

The Paloma River flows out of a chain of lakes and into wider valleys. Some incredible trout come out seasonally and hold over rainbow and brown trout can be taken with large terrestrials and streamers. Some of Patagonia's incredible fly fishing occurs early and late in the season as lake dwelling trout migrate. In this video we are near the headwaters of the Paloma River where 3 rivers come together in one of the more spectacular settings south of Coyhaique.

Nice casting in the wind. Two years ago I had rotator cuff surgery. It sucked , but on the bright side I learned to cast lefty. What a game changer being able to cast from both sides is when it’s windy like that. You pulled it off perfectly.

How many memory cards did you two use in Patagonia? Impressive amount of footage. I always watch, and have always thought I was going to see the “last Patagonia” video, yet here we are haha.

:) We filled quite a few hard drives, that's for sure. I think we're just over 1/2 way through the content now. We're a decade behind in sharing what we're sitting on but as we move forward you'll start to see some changes in our format in order to bring it all together :)

While the setting is quite spectacular, I wouldn't spend the time and money getting there just to catch a bunch of dink sized trout. Better adventures for less out there!!

If you pay close attention to our videos you might pick up similar sentiment on many of the waters. We're extremely grateful for the opportunity but I (Dave) didn't connect with a lot of the fishing because of that + the style of fishing on many waters. There are certainly a few I would specifically travel to fish (a couple of the springs and the Cochrane R further south) but it's a region that really begs to put research into to pick off the specific waters I would engage into and really enjoy; certainly not all are ones I would travel to target. But for the traveling angler looking for adventure, to see amazing country and scenery, to experience completely unique expanse of land, this is a great trip.
