I read this in a fly fishing book about 30 yrs ago. I think Brooks was the last name of the author. He mentioned off setting the hook from the shank just a tiny bit. I have been doing that and I seen to hook up more often than not. If the point of the hook is not completely in line with the shank it gives more chances for hook up.

You must have missed the prior 3 or 4 videos here the past 6 years or the countless others on KZbin- or the endless promotion as a PP and all the development and millions of $ the Ab gov and various tourism companies have spent? Clearly the 43 vehicles parked at the end of the road gates on sat of the aug long wkd 2020 were because of this video (posted Dec 2024) 🤪

I’m pretty new to fly fishing and I love this channel, I was wondering if you know the name of that hopper because it looked super realistic and I know fisherman usually don’t share but is this the bow river?
@jensenflyfishing13 күн бұрын
Hiya - that's just a store bought pattern someone left behind in our box. That's not the Bow but most rivers from the Bow south through to Great Falls Montana have reaches that look like this. 🍻😊

This particular stream has definitely been getting a lot “influencer,” for lack of a better term, attention recently. Would be interested in your perspective on how this has contributed to the increased fishing pressure in recent years. Are we loving this somewhat unique, low population of native trout to death or will all these new “friends” be what ultimately conserves the resource?
@jensenflyfishing13 күн бұрын
The storm that ripped the upper hw apart back in 21 has far more to do with smothering habitat and shifting populations than any gov brochure (60s), Mitchell's Alberta Fishing Guide (80s & 90s), our FFAb Forum (2000s) or modern day social. Focus on habitat shifts and you'll see what's forcing what shifts. 🍻 we get into all of that discussion at our patreon channel and will leave it there 🍻

If someone wants to enjoy a stream I have been fishing for 40 years and hike or bike the 10-12 miles where the best fishing is back there, They deserve to enjoy it as much as my family has over the years👍👍

@@Buzz7744 ya but I'm 20 so maybe save my 20 more years of enjoyment haha😉 just think it's interesting you're willing to give up your spot like that...
@chipdouglas42107 күн бұрын
@buzz7744 So now you’ve not only named the stream but described where the best fishing is and what the best mode of transportation to get there!? Social media and “spot burning” undoubtedly have a UNIQUE and outsized influence on crowding at certain spots (the algorithm). That’s why national parks like Glacier are increasingly discouraging the practice on social media. Everybody deserves equal access, but there are negative consequences to too many people coming all at once.

Excllent!!!!! My dad and I fished like that after he was in a wheelchair at 96. I couldn't get him in the water his last few months but he would wheel out to an observation deck above the Davidson River (NC) and call out location. It was thee sweetest time in our lives to fish together, or so I thought. I felt bad for being the one in the water and on the rod but he said he was enjoying himself. I hadn't thought about his vicarious thrill until she confirmed that team fishing is a blast for both for he and Dave. I figured it was better than nothing at all, but after. being with her observer, I'm thinking we were having the very best time possible. My 96 year old dad: never met a puddle he didn't want to fish.
@jensenflyfishing13 күн бұрын
Just being out there has a value many don't consider. Sense of being the value of place... water and fish take the mind a lot of places 😊 we're not sure which is the better place to be, on the camera or rod tbh. Who wears the moments better - a moment in time with the fish and fly rod or the captured moment that lasts a lifetime in video? 😍
@cyguy857713 күн бұрын
@@jensenflyfishing you are a much better angler than Dave so I think you have it about right 🤣
